Urban Design Practice Area Leader

to lead a growing and diverse practice. You are adept at business development while also taking on a leadership role on projects. Working collaboratively within the region and Gensler network, you will help shape how we get the work, lead the dialogue on design innovation, and help mentor the next generation of design professionals in strategy, urban design, and planning. This role is a project leader, strategy creator, design thinker, client advocate, and relationship steward. You must love to push new ideas, be passionate about design, and get excited about managing diverse projects with talented creatives and exciting clients from across all industry segments. You will provide leadership to create strong, innovative design concepts for planning and urban design projects, including mixed-use, retail, residential, commercial, education, land uses, and transit-oriented development. Your responsibilities include: Building and leading the SW Region Cities & Urban Design Practice Area with strong connections in Los Angeles and regional markets. Leading accounts and projects from business development presentations through strategy, design, and delivery. Building and leading project teams, ensuring high-quality work. Mentoring team members to develop their talents. Motivating and inspiring design teams. Creating compelling client presentations. Applying sustainable planning and design principles. Collaborating with other Gensler practices such as retail, hospitality, sports & entertainment, workplace, and education. Managing multiple client relationships and developing strategic positioning for clients from startups to Fortune 500 companies. Leading client presentations to executive audiences. Initiating and closing business development opportunities. Being accountable for client and project performance metrics. Your Qualifications

Minimum of 15+ years of experience in urban design and master planning projects. Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Urban Design and/or Architecture. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and graphic. Knowledge of urban planning, zoning, CEQA, entitlements, and technical issues. Deep knowledge of local agencies and key relationships within those agencies. Proficiency in Revit, MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite; Rhino and SketchUp preferred. Strategic thinking and strong client positioning skills. Business development experience, including proposals, client interviews, and deal closing. Extensive experience leading design teams. Excellent storytelling, writing, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Proven track record of building excellent client relationships. Strong project management skills, including scheduling, scope, fees, and team coordination. Willingness to travel as required. Great references and a strong personal portfolio.
