Overview
Substation Designer (CADD) at HDR. The successful candidate will be part of a team that provides design support for large, medium, and small-scale substation engineering projects. This is an excellent growth opportunity for a self-directed individual who wants to learn and take on new challenges. In this role, HDR seeks an individual who can contribute to substation design tasks, CADD design, develop design drawings and documents, perform modeling and/or analysis, prepare material lists, conduct field reviews, and other tasks for moderately to highly complex projects. Note: US-born Citizenship is required due to client contract requirements. Responsibilities
Work independently to perform substation design tasks, CADD design, develop design drawings and documents, modeling and/or analysis, prepare material lists, perform field reviews, and other tasks for moderately complex to highly complex projects. Prepare engineering drawings, including One Line Diagrams, General Arrangements Sections, Grounding & Conduit Plans, Foundation Plans, Material Lists (BOM), Relay and Control Systems Schematics and Wiring Diagrams. Perform calculations, reports and designs for electrical substations (Low, Medium and High Voltage) and substation systems to support engineers. Understand client standards and complete small to moderately complex projects, exercising judgement in design criteria, evaluation, and design, subject to review by engineers. Based upon experience, can perform most design responsibilities without assistance on moderately complex projects, and may work independently, but with some engineering guidance on complex projects. Communicate with Project Managers, Project Engineers, and client personnel. Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Technical degree or a combination of education and related industry experience A minimum of 5 years related industry experience Advanced skillset of 3D design software and document management infrastructure Advanced skillset of 3D Coordination tool Competency in Microsoft Office products and communication tools Advanced understanding of engineering or architectural concepts Knowledge of industry standards and practices, along with discipline codes and specifications Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and organizational traits Preferred Qualifications
Associates or technical school degree or combination of education and relevant experience 5+ years of experience developing CADD layouts/designs from engineering designs Proficiency using Microsoft Office Proficiency using AutoCAD and MicroStation Experience in both the Protection and Control (Indoor) and Physical (Outdoor) aspects of High Voltage (HV) Substation design Ability to be a lead technician, train junior designers, and work closely with engineering staff Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm preferred Preference given to local candidates What We Believe
