Job Title Structural Designer
Job Location 11501 Burnet Rd BLDG 906 STE 200, Austin, TX 78758
Primary Function Perform routine design assignments, which require knowledge and skill in structural drafting of steel structures and concrete foundations. Successful candidates may be placed in a Designer I, II or III titles depending on skill and experience level.
Duties & Responsibilities
Produce new drawings from examples of previous projects and/or standards
Oversee project-specific activities of drafters and more junior designers
Research information in catalogues, specifications, corporate standards, or other reference material
Calculate structure heights and weights, concrete volumes, equipment fit‑up, or other basic tasks
Develop design documents, drawings, and bills of materials
Learn and use task‑specific software
Learn and properly use the document management system
Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of his/her work
Bring potential project‑related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party
Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments; travel will be minimal
Other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications / Experience Certificate in Drafting and/or Design is required; equivalent experience with AutoCAD may be considered in lieu of certificate. Associate's degree in Drafting/Design is preferred. A minimum of 2 years of civil/structural design is required; substation design experience is preferred.
Possess skills in the following areas:
Experience with AutoCAD 2010 or newer is required. Experience with Microstation V8 & V8i is preferred
Experience in structural drafting of steel structures and concrete foundations
Knowledge of the types of drawings required for foundation and steel construction
Knowledge of the major components of a substation is preferred
Basic knowledge of civil / structural codes and standards (AISC and ACI)
Mathematics, including algebra and basic trigonometry
Basic oral and written communications
Word processing, spread sheet, and e‑mail software
Working in a team environment
Communicating effectively with co‑workers
Physical Requirements
This position requires minimal physical effort.
Must be able to endure prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer for a minimum of 8 hours a day
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will primarily work indoors, with occasional outdoor exposure to year around weather conditions and noise.
Must be able and willing to travel overnight for trainings and/or meetings as required (10%)
Working extended hours, including weekends, may be required periodically.
May occasionally lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
