Tool & Fixture Designer
Location:
Bristol, Rhode Island
We are seeking an experienced Tool & Fixture Designer to join our team in Bristol, RI. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tooling and fixture design, with hands‑on experience in injection molding and CAD/CAM software. You will play a critical role in designing and developing molds, fixtures, and tooling that support our manufacturing operations while ensuring quality, efficiency, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Perform feasibility assessments for new products and mold layouts.
Review new part designs for moldability and manufacturability.
Create detailed 3D mold designs using Cimatron or SolidWorks.
Generate tool layout drawings and files for CNC machining, EDM, and other fabrication processes.
Collaborate with engineers and toolmakers to ensure high‑quality tooling builds.
Produce Bills of Materials (BOMs) for new designs.
Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to minimize secondary operations.
Ensure designs meet quality, tolerance, and surface finish requirements.
Work within AS9100 quality guidelines and maintain proper drawing/document controls.
Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED required; vocational trade school preferred.
5+ years’ experience in tooling and fixture design (injection molding experience a plus).
Proficiency with Cimatron Mold Design/CAM and SolidWorks (FEA experience preferred).
Strong knowledge of GD&T, blueprint reading, tolerances, and assembly design.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Excellent problem‑solving, time management, and organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Working knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform physical tasks for 8–12 hours/day.
