Engineer/Engineering Analyst - Data and Visualization Analyst
This position is responsible for producing analytics, KPIs and visualizations to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of critical power plant systems, components, and processes. The candidate will be a member of the Renewables Performance Engineering team, which serves as the business product owner for the data integration and visualization tools and processes for Southern Power. A primary responsibility is owning and maintaining Power BI-based monthly reports for internal stakeholders and third-party partners. The role also involves conceiving, creating, and deploying analytics and visualizations to enable the fleet to better use and analyze data from multiple sources to obtain increased value. The position will provide primary support to SPC Renewable Operations and may support Commercial Operations Trading and Transmission (COT&T), site personnel, Southern Power M&D Center, and the Southern Power Remote Operations Center (ROC). This position is located at the Southern Power Monitoring and Diagnostics Center in Birmingham, AL. The role will be filled at a level commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities
Own and maintain Power BI-based monthly reports for internal stakeholders and third-party partners.
Query data from various data sources including AVEVA PI (PIBA) and Databricks.
Create and manage visualizations in Power BI related to site performance and data quality.
Perform performance and reliability analyses including metric calculations and KPI dashboard development.
Measure fleet performance against established metrics and compare actual to forecasted performance and reliability.
Identify performance shortfalls and determine potential causes.
Summarize findings, including developed conclusions and recommendations, in both informal and formal meetings and documents.
Track and report on all lost energy events caused by outages, derates, curtailments or other conditions.
Forecast performance improvements expected from corrective actions such as design changes and operations controls changes.
Assist in new technology selection for power generation systems and assist in quantifying value of increased output and/or efficiency.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a 2-year or 4-year Technical Degree is preferred.
A thorough understanding and working knowledge of data integration and visualization techniques is required.
Experience with data management techniques to access, integrate, analyze, and visualize data from multiple sources is required. Working experience with AVEVA PI, Power BI, or similar reporting and visualization programs is highly desired.
Experience with AVEVA Pi Vision: ability to create, configure, and manage Pi Vision displays for monitoring plant performance and visualizing operational data.
Experience developing and deploying custom business applications using Microsoft Power Apps, including integration with enterprise data sources to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency.
Understanding of plant performance, engineering, operations; equipment, systems, and processes in the renewable energy industry is preferred.
Experience in organizing and managing multiple projects at the same time. Proven ability to plan; ability to discern problems that need immediate attention versus those that allow more time to resolve.
Knowledge of SQL is a plus.
Knowledge of Python is a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products required (Power BI, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
