We’re seeking a
Technical Apparel Designer
to join our dynamic Product team. This role is perfect for a detail-oriented, early-career professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You’ll be instrumental in developing protective apparel that protects the world's workers, an easy cause to get behind and a great one to work for. Position Responsibilities:
Design or redesign products as determined by Product Management, including documentation of the product development process (sourcing, costing, sample revision, feedback, wear trials, etc.). Accurately provide costing of production processes through sampling, time studies, and efficiency improvements. Audit bills of material and operations to calculate margins of existing products. Develop, maintain, alter, and customize patterns within Lectra Accumark Pattern Design Software (PDS). Create and maintain digital pattern models and keep the product library updated for digital cutting platforms. Sew or construct first samples and prototypes using industrial sewing equipment. Collaborate with the production line to transfer new product designs or process information. Create and maintain technical packages and work instructions using Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Excel, including BOMs, construction call outs, stitch identification, etc. Write technical specifications for sales, customer, and marketing reference. Photograph products and perform minor edits in Adobe Photoshop. Prepare and maintain product labeling and user information resources. Create art sheets for product emblems and art, and maintain illustrations of product options in Adobe Illustrator Cloud library. Measure garments and accessories following industry standards for quality assurance and development. Provide guidance on quality inspection and address quality issues related to materials, construction, fit, and performance. Perform quality inspections of samples and initial production, providing feedback and revision directions. Evaluate fit and function through technical reviews and organize feedback. Resolve fit, function, and quality issues, recommending design solutions. Supervise and review work by Technical Design Consultants. Oversee UL certification sample preparation as directed. Analyze production processes and recommend improvements for efficiency, quality, and profitability. Assist in sourcing production equipment and materials. Collaborate with sales, manufacturing, material, and equipment vendors to stay updated on industry, technology, and design trends. Support safety policies and promote efficiency and profitability. Participate in ISO 9001 Quality program. Position Preferences:
Proactive troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently or within a team. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams). Bachelor’s degree in apparel design, industrial design, or similar. 3+ years relevant apparel industry experience preferred. Experience with PDS such as Accumark, Modaris, or Optitex. Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; InDesign preferred. Understanding of garment construction standards, manufacturing methods, materials, and finishing techniques. Pattern development, flat and draping, sizing, and pattern grading experience, with pattern making knowledge essential. Ability to interpret technical documentation and lab test results. Motivated with a strong commitment to quality and customer safety standards.
