Entry Level Substation Civil Designer
POWER Engineers, a member of WSP, is currently seeking a Civil Designer/Drafter to perform engineering design activities for electrical substations. This position is in the Power Delivery Northeast Civil/Structural Substation Department, with offices in various locations. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment; employees must live within driving distance of one of the offices.
Roles And Responsibilities
All aspects of electrical civil design including permitting support, site design, foundation design, structure design, and control building design.
The successful candidate will be responsible for learning, understanding, and implementing CAD knowledge, learning client standards, practices, and procedures, collaborating on design issues, and seeking guidance from more experienced colleagues.
Preparation of drawing packages to satisfy client and code requirements.
Occasional travel may be required.
Required Education / Experience
Associates/technical degree in an accredited drafting program, or sufficient industry experience.
Three (3) years civil design/drafting experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, preferably in an engineering work environment.
Ability to successfully participate in multiple projects concurrently.
Mechanical reasoning skills and attention to detail.
Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills.
Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
Desired Education / Experience
Experience in electric utility substation design (15kV through 500kV) is a plus.
Experience with AutoCAD Civil3D or Microstation Open‑Roads (In‑Roads) is beneficial.
Experience with Autodesk Raster Design or Bentley Descartes.
Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Good background with mathematics.
