Technology Project Designer
in our Austin, TX office or other locations. As a
Technology Project Designer , you will lead design efforts as a project manager or lead designer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff for the delivery of larger and high complexity projects. You will work closely with a team of engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients to ensure positive outcomes. Primary responsibilities include engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of low-voltage technology (ICT) systems in buildings. This position will work within the project budget, and involve training, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration to meet project goals and client expectations. Responsibilities
Lead design efforts for the analysis of IT structured cabling, audio/video, security, and other low-voltage building systems. Create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards using engineering software and tools. Interact with clients to understand their needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively. Build and maintain client relationships through professional communication. Work as part of a project team to support consulting projects. Lead planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives. Document design decisions and instructions from clients while monitoring design progress related to percent complete and fee expended. Analyze engineering problems and propose innovative solutions in collaboration with senior engineers and consultants. Provide in-process design reviews of IT structured cabling, audio/video, security, and other low-voltage building systems design, calculations, and specifications. Implement IMEG quality control processes to meet quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements. Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in low-voltage technology (ICT) engineering. Contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG. Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work and identify and mitigate potential safety risks related to low-voltage ICT systems. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals. Identify potential project problems and seek guidance from the Project Manager. Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration phases. Required Skills/Abilities
Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in producing technical plans and specifications. Strong technical and analytical skills including electrical voltage and current, digital and analog signals, basic IT networking topologies and protocols as they relate to low-voltage systems design for buildings. Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff. Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software and tools. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Eagerness to adapt to new challenges; proficiency in BIM software; proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written form to individuals or groups. Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays. This position is not eligible for sponsorship. Education And Experience
Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer or related Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, related STEM field, or equivalent required. Engineering In Training (EIT) Certification preferred. 3 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry. Alternatively, Associates degree or certificate in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred with 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industry. Physical Requirements
Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds. Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull. Limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises.
