NELSON is seeking a
Technical Designer III
to join the
Civic & Justice Practice . The Technical Designer III is responsible for developing, organizing, and executing construction documents utilizing creativity, foresight and judgment to meet project requirements and objectives through project completion.
Experience in Civic & Justice building typologies is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate has experience working on projects such as correction facilities, jails, prisons, detention centers, courthouses, and other public facilities including municipalities, police and fire stations, city and county buildings, and public safety buildings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Support the Project Manager in establishing project goals and objectives, including workplan, schedule, and budget parameters.
Lead, facilitate and manage the overall design process for moderately complex projects independently and support larger complex projects under supervision.
Contribute to developing fee proposals.
Develop innovative design concepts that are practical, aesthetic, safe and conducive to intended purposes and functional within client goals and project budget.
Selection and specification of materials, products, and architectural systems.
Participate in maintaining positive client relationships throughout the project.
Assist Project Manager in subcontracting and coordinating sub-consultant work.
Serve as team lead in keeping the project, or a phase of a project, on schedule in conjunction with the Project Manager.
Coordinate with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure all information is incorporated into project requirements and provide support as necessary.
Lead the Construction Administration phase, responding to RFIs and COs, reviewing shop drawings, and participating in field site reviews.
Ensure project documentation complies with NELSON standards for all projects and processes.
Assist with negotiating fees and subcontract agreements.
Develop solutions to technical and design problems following established standards.
Prepare 2D and 3D presentation and design drawings.
Provide research and compile data during project phases.
Prepare and modify interior architectural documents, elevations, sections, details, etc.
Support the team in collecting information for client assessment; may attend interviews, provide documentation support.
Conduct design charrettes and lead project team meetings.
Complete timesheet and expense reports accurately and on time.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Ability to prioritize and effectively meet deadlines while providing high-quality service to clients.
Advanced knowledge of design, construction methodology, materials application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness.
Advanced knowledge of furniture, fixture, and equipment (FF&E), architectural/interior finishes, lighting, art signage, color, and materials to carry out design intent.
Advanced knowledge of sustainability, integrated design, and LEED guidelines.
Advanced knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in producing precise technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
Highly proficient in Revit and AutoCAD.
Basic proficiency in Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint.
Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign is preferred.
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to complete within the identified time frame and/or deadline.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Drafting, or related field.
Highly proficient in Revit and AutoCAD.
8+ years of experience in the field of Architecture.
Must be deadline-oriented and have strong attention to detail.
Architectural experience in justice and civic building typologies is strongly preferred, including correction facilities, jails, prisons, detention centers, courthouses, municipalities, police and fire stations, city and county buildings, and public safety buildings.
Familiarity with Photoshop and/or InDesign is preferred.
National salary range (regional cost of living, years of relevant experience, certifications, etc.: $60,000 – $95,000; contingent upon relevant experience). Additional compensation includes bonuses and benefits, including Long Term Incentive Plan, Short Term Incentive Plan, and Profit Sharing.
