The Surgical Technologist II (operating room scrub technician) sets up sterile field and gathers supplies for surgical cases, based on knowledge of instruments and equipment to be used. This position passes instruments to surgeons during surgery. This position also performs count procedures per policy during surgical cases. The Surgical Technologist II serves as a resource and preceptor to less experienced Surgical Technologists and takes call for routine and high-acuity cases after orientation period. This role also learns, performs and completes assignments/responsibilities assigned during the transitional duty period. Additional duties may include working across three shifts, weekends, and holidays as required; scheduling and shift rotations will be established with the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator. Qualifications

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST); Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C); or Certified Operating Room and Surgical Technician (CORST) certification required. CST is preferred. Current AHA, BLS, HCP Certification required for continued employment; CST, TS-C or CORST required. Experience: Minimum of two (2) years experience as a Surgical Technologist (required). Education/Training: High School Diploma or equivalent; graduate of a Surgical Technology Program or a military training program or Licensed Practical Nursing Program. Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology Program. Independent action: Functions under the direction of RN or independent practitioner; follows hospital, nursing and unit policies and procedures. Requires prior approval/guidance for time/schedule changes or direct care that deviates from the standard. Physical Requirements and Work Environment

Physical: Lifting 50-100 lbs. Other: Exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances. Activities include prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing, reaching; mental/sensory requirements include strong recall, problem solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking; emotional demands include fast-paced environment, ability to manage multiple priorities, and frequent, intense interactions in a noisy environment. The position operates within a fast-paced setting with frequent changes in duties and priorities. Additional Position Details

Age-specific groups served: As appropriate based on transitional duty assignment. Supervisory responsibilities: N/A. Days: Surgical Technologists work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator. Schedules may be adjusted as necessary to meet staffing requirements.
