Kiewit Nuclear Solutions- Mechanical Designer positions in Lenexa, KS, Aiken, SC, & Oak Ridge, TN. The role focuses on mechanical/piping design for nuclear-related projects, providing safe, cost-effective, and innovative designs that meet client expectations and Kiewit’s standards. Location
The ideal location for this position is Lenexa, KS. Management will consider other supporting locations, with relocation available based on project needs. Responsibilities
Utilize 3D design software such as SmartPlant 3D, Bentley OpenPlant, AutoCAD Plant 3D (or other 3D design software) to create 3D equipment models based on equipment drawings and provide technical guidance to lower-level designers/drafters to ensure work is completed accurately and to our standards. Design piping systems and generate isometric drawings for systems typical of industrial facilities and power generation facilities, including process steam, process water, drains, plant/facility water, compressed air, gas systems, condensate, blowdown, circulating water, cooling and chilled water, and underground piping utilities. Perform early project design work related to facility layout and equipment general arrangement. Develop, monitor and check design deliverables in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards. Navigate 3D models to check for interferences and constructability. Support the construction team, including representing the design team on-site, answering RFIs, and providing creative design solutions. Complete miscellaneous tasks to support project or department development. Coordinate with other design partners (internal and external), including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers/designers, and review work progress and results. Develop schedules, work assignments, staffing requirements and support detailed estimates to ensure successful project completion. Train, mentor, and advise lower-level designers on proper application of industry standards and best practices. Report task progress to Lead Designer. Qualifications
Bachelor’s or associate degree in computer aided design and drafting technology, engineering or related field. Experience with design software such as SmartPlant 3D (or similar plant design 3D software), MicroStation and AutoCAD. A minimum of 10-15 years of 3D modeling/detailed design experience, with the ability to perform 3D piping design, equipment layout, and develop construction drawings; experience coordinating with other disciplines for compliance with layouts. Experience in Nuclear, Industrial, Power, Oil and Gas; performing balance of plant type design (piping, pumps, valves, heating/cooling systems). Must have pipe support design, equipment layout and installation experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills. DOE and Commercial Nuclear experience preferred but not required. Must be able to pass a background check and be a US citizen or US permanent resident. Other Requirements
