We are seeking candidates for a full-time Civil/Railway position in one of the following offices:
Kansas City
Chicago
St Louis
Springfield
Peoria
Corpus Christi
Houston
Sarasota
Indy
McHenry
Bellevue
Position Profile
This role primarily involves designing railroad track and yard projects and related construction observation. The candidate should be able to work on various projects, take direction from multiple supervisors, and coordinate with other staff. This role offers entry-level individuals the chance to learn and grow, while more experienced candidates can expand their project experience and leadership skills.
A Day in the Life of a Civil Railway Designer at Hanson
Work on project teams as a designer and construction observer
Coordinate and communicate field construction activities with contractors and designers
Coordinate and observe onsite materials testing
Lead or assist with field investigations, analysis, calculations, and preparation of civil plans, specifications, and estimates on rail-related projects
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications include:
CAD experience and/or willingness to learn MicroStation
Experience designing with MicroStation Connect / Open Roads is a plus
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong communication and technical writing skills
Ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues
Educational requirements vary by experience level, from a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (with optional FE/Engineer In Training Certification) for entry-level to P.E. licensure and rail design experience for senior candidates
Pay Range : $72,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience.

Valid driver’s license required
Ability to pass e-Railsafe security background check
