Founded in 1946, we specialize in providing signs and graphics and a range of services to help make our customers’ projects successful.
We are growing and seeking a Technical Designer to support both operations and customers in our Signs and Graphics team in either our Charlotte, NC or North Charleston, SC office. This role is critical in supporting the Signs & Graphics division.
The Technical Designer manages technical and production design aspects of signage projects from concept through fabrication. This includes support for ADA signage, Sign Agent projects, and other specialized or custom signs requiring precision and construction detail. The ideal candidate will have experience in sign manufacturing, construction, or architectural environments and a strong understanding of materials, production methods, and technical design. While creative input is welcomed, the focus is on technical execution and production feasibility.
Essential Functions And Duties
Shop Drawing Development, focusing on fabrication‑ready design
Familiarize with and interpret scope of work documents, including architectural plans, elevations, and sign location plans to ensure design accuracy and code compliance
Apply knowledge of sign fabrication processes to specify appropriate materials, substrates, and construction methods for each signage application
Collaborate with the sales team and clients to develop technically accurate designs for incoming projects
Emphasis on complex, custom, and detail‑oriented signage (e.g., ADA packages, fabricated & illuminated signs)
Lead coordination and execution of Sign Agent and ADA signage workflows
Coordinate with outsourced vendors, gather quote information, and submit orders
Perform site surveys and field measurements as needed
Handle phone and email inquiries regarding job status, quotes, and project updates
Follow ordering and PO procedures with accuracy
Communicate install schedule internally and with clients
Maintain consistent communication with team, in‑office and on‑site
Maintain and update Job Center and track project time by branch/project
Contribute to stretch assignments (e.g., ADA estimating/pricing, custom orders, process improvements)
Serve as a liaison for technical projects, focusing on organization, documentation, and client needs
Actively contribute to a positive team culture in coordination with the Production Manager & Operations Director
Additional tasks as assigned
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, Sign Agent & CAD Tools is a plus
Competent in Microsoft Office products, basic computer skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
