The Art & Design Department at Utah Valley University invites applications for a Professional Track Faculty Artist-in-Residence in Motion Design, 3D Animation to begin August 2026. We seek a dedicated artist/designer and a collaborative educator who will teach undergraduate courses in Motion Graphics and/or 3D animation catered to new entertainment, film, and games industries and will motivate students to create compelling work. The candidate is expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and participate actively in their field of expertise.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Teach and supervise undergraduate courses in Motion Graphics/3D Animation. Plan, prepare, and implement an approved course of study. Prepare instructional materials (demos, visual presentations, online materials) as necessary.
- Instruct, manage, and supervise individuals and groups in classrooms, labs, or online courses using methods such as lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and visual aids. Mentor students outside of class time.
- Maintain and submit accurate and current reports and records regarding student grading, attendance, and performance.
- Establish and maintain office hours and advise students during this time and at other times as needed. Assist advisors, department chairperson, faculty, and department staff in maintaining an effective program, including curriculum development.
- Improve professionally and maintain currency and relevance of the courses taught. Stay abreast of new development trends, techniques, and materials through participation in workshop seminars, professional work experience, and exchange programs with industry professionals.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Licenses
- Graduated from a regionally accredited institution with a related degree. BFA or equivalent in Motion Design, 3D Animation, or related field.
- Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Motion Design, 3D animation, or related industry experience.
- College-level Motion Design, 3D animation, or related teaching experience.
- MFA degree in a related discipline.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- Motion Graphics–3D Animation workflow, practice, and theory
- Student management, motivation, and evaluation techniques
- Apple and PC computer hardware
- Variety of teaching methods and curricular perspectives
- Current industry practices, including aspects of AI
Skills
- Experience with current 3D Software (Blender or equivalent) and the Adobe Creative Suite
- Motion Graphics and/or Animation skills
- 3D Sculpting (ZBrush), 3D Modeling, Substance Painter, and/or Digital Painting (plus)
- Interpersonal relationships, problem-solving, and decision-making
- Excellent communication skills

- Teach, mentor, and motivate students in inclusive and engaging ways
- Relate well with students and colleagues
