Lecturer in the Teaching of Rhetoric and Writing
Position: Lecturer – Assistant Instructional Professor (4 appointments). Start date August 16, 2026. Full‑time, nine‑month, non‑tenure, accruing appointment with possibility of renewal. Tribe of the University Writing Program (UWP). Location: Main Campus, Gainesville, FL.
Job Overview
UWP offers a diverse array of composition courses: first‑year composition, themed critical thinking and writing, discipline‑focused writing, and professional writing. The role requires a Ph.D. in Composition and Rhetoric or a related field, with strong expertise in rhetorical theory and visual communication. Teaching assignment is 3/3 (three courses each semester). The salary range is competitive (see compensation section) and UF provides a full benefits package.
Responsibilities
- Teach and develop at least three composition courses per semester.
- Incorporate visual and written communication practices into the curriculum.
- Support experiential learning initiatives such as study abroad exchanges, community outreach, or partnerships with local organizations.
- Provide scholarly activity aligned with UWP goals and the broader UF community.
- Participate in department meetings, curriculum development, and faculty service.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Composition, Rhetoric, or a related content area with experience in teaching writing.
- Demonstrated ability in rhetoric and visual communication.
- Preferred: experience with experiential learning, community‑based outreach, and/or use of AI or digital media in teaching.
