WSP is seeking a Technical Director − Structural Engineer

to provide technical leadership on underground structural engineering projects. This role will be within our national Geotechnical and Tunneling group, and Transportation and Infrastructure business line. The right candidate will have strong project management skills, applicable to the design, rehabilitation and construction-support of tunnels, stations, shafts and vaults. This role will be based out of our

New York City

office.

Your Impact

Managing structural engineers and leading discipline-specific tasks

Advancing and implementing state-of-the-art structural engineering practices, inclusive of advanced modelling/analysis/design tools, digital delivery, and AI.

Driving the development of innovative technical concepts to reduce construction cost, risk, and project duration.

Advising clients on how to achieve their goals.

Leading and winning pursuits for WSP.

Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering.

18+ years of experience designing tunnels, retaining walls, bridges and related structures

Experienced in the design and analysis of reinforced concrete and structural steel

Proven success in:

Project Management

Client interactions

Pursuit Management

Staff development and leadership

Project delivery

Technical innovation

Quality management

Inter-disciplinary coordination

Structural inspections

Construction support

Professional Engineer Registration in New York State, willing to obtain PE registration in other states.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.

Direct experience with MTA (NYCT) and subway station framing

Experience with inspection and rehabilitation‑design of underground structures

Familiarity with finite element and beam‑spring modeling

Experience with construction cost estimating

Experience with alternative delivery methods.

Compensation: Expected Salary (New York City): $180K-$230K per year

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and may offer additional benefits and compensation, depending on circumstances and the type of work being performed not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
