The Senior Technical Designer plays a key role in the Product Development Department, providing technical expertise, creative problem‑solving, and leadership. This individual must possess strong teamwork skills, an in-depth understanding of garment fit and construction, and a passion for continuous learning and growth.
We currently have two open positions: one focused on Tops and Bottoms.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain a positive and collaborative work atmosphere by communicating effectively with customers, clients, co‑workers, and management.
Create technical packets in PLM, ensuring all details are accurate, cost‑effective, and commercially viable for factory production.
Review technical packets and contractor samples for design accuracy and integrity.
Execute design and fit intent through to bulk production while maintaining corporate standards.
Collaborate cross‑functionally to ensure alignment on design and fit objectives.
Identify potential production, quality, or cost issues and propose proactive solutions.
Partner closely with the Quality Department to communicate potential quality concerns during development.
Negotiate costs with vendors to achieve optimal pricing while maintaining quality and design intent.
Ensure size and fit consistency across product categories.
Lead fit sessions, acting as the primary fit expert for assigned products.
Build and maintain fit base libraries, including sketches and garment measurements.
Review and maintain the How‑To‑Measure Manual to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Manage workflow and timelines for assigned products to meet established deadlines.
Engage business partners proactively when issues arise, offering viable solutions.
Foster open communication and collaboration across departments.
Participate in team and cross‑functional meetings, as well as process reviews to identify and implement improvements.
Support and mentor less experienced team members, providing guidance on pattern and grading questions.
Review the work of junior colleagues to ensure quality and help them develop their technical skills.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four‑year college or university.
Minimum of 7+ years of experience in Technical Design.
Experience in Tops and Bottoms or Denim (depending on the role).
Strong sense of urgency, time management, and accountability.
Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
Creative and resourceful approach to problem‑solving.
Strong analytical skills, including comfort with fractions, percentages, geometry, and basic algebra.
Proven ability to multitask and meet deadlines under pressure.
Expertise in garment quality standards, construction, and fit evaluation.
Ability to create computer‑generated technical sketches.
Strong understanding of fabrics, trims, finishes, and garment construction techniques.
Expert knowledge of patternmaking, including grading and fit adjustments.
Ability to make independent decisions and provide expert‑level guidance.
Experience mentoring junior team members.
Strategic thinker with an understanding of how Product Development impacts other business areas (e.g., Sales).
Proficient in Adobe Illustrator; knowledge of Photoshop preferred.
