Responsibilities
Preparing or directing the preparation of simple to complex design documents, system layouts, detailed drawings, schematics and specifications.
Leading project and design efforts from concept design through completion.
Reviewing shop drawings for conformance to plans and specifications.
Performing research and making recommendations regarding the feasibility of systems or equipment. Evaluating products for their application.
Producing solutions to complex engineering problems and complicated design challenges through direct involvement or in an advisory capacity.
Ensuring that production of drawings, specifications, reports and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements.
Proactively advising and mentoring less experienced designers and engineers, providing oversight and technical guidance.
Directing activities of technical and administrative staff as needed.
Continuously developing and expanding personal knowledge and the knowledge of others.
Assisting Technical Managers and Directors with establishing and implementing goals, policies, objectives and standards at the practice or sector level.
Involved in the development of tools, resources and company practices.
Implementing and reinforcing design and engineering standards at the team or practice level.
Overseeing the quality of projects and designs through the quality review process and regular check-ins. Providing final reviews for projects under purview as required.
Taking the lead in developing, establishing and maintaining relationships with strategic partners and customers in support of and to expand business opportunities.
Participating in client, company and/or industry events to build and maintain professional relationships.
Fostering a client‑centric mindset and approach individually and within their team.
Communicating with clients as needed for the development and coordination of requirements and scope of work. Maintaining proactive communication throughout the project cycle.
Anticipating and answering questions from clients and architects. Acting as a resource to others and directing in fact‑finding and/or assisting with answering questions.
Visiting job sites to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
Resolving conflicts involving owners, architects and contractors as needed.
Performing a range of project management responsibilities in collaboration with experienced project managers.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of engineering preferred (mechanical, electrical, fire protection or architectural) and 7 years of relevant experience, or 9 years of experience without a degree required.
Advanced knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, A&E industry, codes, design guides and standards relating to a broad range of practices, projects and/or program types (required).
Knowledge of earned value, contracts and construction processes and methods (required).
Proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam Revu (required).
Professional Engineering (PE) license highly preferred.
PSP and/or CPP accreditation preferred.
Completion of FE exam, LEED and/or WELL accreditation highly preferred.
High technical aptitude: ability to learn, understand and utilize various systems and processes.
Comfortable with training others on systems and processes.
Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate with designers at all levels in a clear and concise manner.
Effective critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
Team oriented and willingness and ability to function in a highly collaborative environment, in group projects and leading less experienced designers.
Adaptable to changing work environments, priorities and organizational needs.
Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
Ability to give and receive constructive feedback and adjust to coaching.
