Graduate Assistant - Muleskinner Managing Editor, University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg, MO. The Muleskinner is seeking applications for the position of Managing Editor. General responsibilities include supporting the Editor-in-Chief in overseeing day-to-day operations of the student-run newspaper, The Muleskinner. This position requires strong leadership, a passion for journalism, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. The Managing Editor will assist in content planning, production, and staff management to maintain high quality while meeting deadlines. After serving as Managing Editor, the GA will have the opportunity to transition to Editor-in-Chief.
Responsibilities
Assume key leadership responsibilities, including taking over the duties of the Editor-in-Chief in their absence to ensure continuity of operations.
Serve as the primary point of contact for campus editors during production nights, providing guidance and final approval in consultation with the Editor-in-Chief.
Assist in leading weekly staff meetings to plan content and discuss the direction of news coverage, and provide feedback on staff performance and content quality.
Supervise editorial positions to ensure duties are met, reinforcing deadlines and policies.
Collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief.
Participate in conducting semester reviews of the editorial staff and assist in interview and selection of new staff members.
Foster a motivating, positive environment for the editorial team, encouraging creativity and accountability.
Assist in planning and executing special projects, trips, and material submissions for awards.
Organize and maintain archives, ensure current issues are updated online, and coordinate with campus and section editors to ensure smooth production while seeking new story ideas.
Manage the Muleskinner's online accounts to keep content current and engaging.
Act as a liaison between the Muleskinner and the campus community to foster relationships and collaboration.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor’s Degree required; Journalism, Mass Communications, or related field preferred. Currently admitted to a UCM graduate degree program. GPA requirements: 3.0 or higher for graduate coursework; 2.7 or higher undergraduate GPA if no graduate courses taken.

Scholarship:
Students in graduate assistantships may receive graduate tuition waivers and related benefits as described. Scholarships apply to graduate coursework only; unused portions are not paid or carried over. The non-resident fee scholarship applies to classes on the UCM Warrensburg campus. For a full 20-hour/week assistantship, the scholarship covers up to 12 credit hours per semester. Part-time and less-than-full-time positions are prorated accordingly.
Special Instructions:
Benefits vary by status. Full-time staff and 12-month faculty are benefits-eligible; 9-month faculty and part-time positions have corresponding benefits. Please note that some positions do not include benefits.
