We build and support community and school gardens through volunteer days, technical assistance, training, grants, and more. We provide 70,000 children each year with programs that offer meaningful interactions with the natural environment.

Position Summary The Farm Business and Marketing Specialist will provide Greenmarket farmers and producers with business and technical support designed to ensure the long‑term success of their businesses. The Specialist works with in‑house services and third‑party consultants, implements, monitors, and evaluates business and marketing/sales strategy assistance, and supports recruitment, onboarding, and market program development and sustainability. The role requires project‑management experience, strong interpersonal skills, a nuanced understanding of business planning and marketing for producers in the Northeast, and experience managing partner organizations and consultants.

Responsibilities Client Intake and Support Primary point of contact for producers seeking technical assistance. Conduct intake and create individualized support plans focused on business and financial planning, marketing, and capital access. Identify and work with partner organizations and third‑party consultants to meet producer needs. Assist producers with administrative tasks and technical support, including forms and partner outreach. Document and track assistance status in the internal producer database.

Promotional, Sales, and Business Planning Support Help producers optimize market displays to increase sales and engagement. Guide producers on product mix to maximize sales, including value‑added product development. Analyze sales and customer behavior to devise profitable marketing strategies. Support branding, logo, and marketing material development. Create enterprise budgets to assess pricing and profitability.

Training Coordinate workshops and training with partner organizations and consultants. Facilitate educational workshops on critical business topics such as customer service, market display, and sales data evaluation.

Market Program Development and Support Support outreach and recruitment of new farmers and producers. Collaborate with Operations to grow the market program, focusing on onboarding and expansion. Provide strategic guidance to the FAA Director and Greenmarket Operations Manager on site selection and sustainability guidelines. Collaborate on site‑by‑site fiscal analysis to evaluate individual market success.

Program Administration and Communications Maintain participant databases, track client work, manage expenses, and support system processes. Track progress toward grant deliverables. Contribute to budget development, grant proposals, reports, and funder relationships. Assist communications staff with press inquiries regarding regional producer businesses. Build and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, emphasizing BIPOC and historically marginalized producers. Develop greenmarket literature, promotional materials, presentations, reports, and program booklets with farmer‑centered storytelling. Manage farmer‑assistant communications and respond to inquiries. Produce the monthly farmer‑assistant newsletter.

Required Qualifications 2+ years of experience with farmers or in commercial agricultural businesses. In‑depth knowledge of farm business planning, sales, and marketing strategies for farmer markets and direct‑to‑consumer sales. Experience submitting invoices and tracking payments. Skilled in recruiting, training, and managing external consultants and vendors. Excellent interpersonal skills, high emotional intelligence, and experience working with diverse backgrounds (race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, class, religion). Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast‑paced team environment. Strong initiative, time‑management skills, and ability to work independently and collaboratively. Detail‑oriented with strong written and public speaking communication skills. Flexibility to meet emergent farmer needs and adapt to changing scope. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite. Spanish‑English bilingual. Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record.

Ideal Qualifications Experience with client or case management. Experience delivering business technical assistance to farmers. Passion for supporting regional farmers and commitment to a racially and socially just food system.

Additional Requirements Ability to travel to Greenmarket locations, regional farms, and other sites (company vehicle provided). Ability to walk long distances over rough terrain on regional farms. Ability to drive long distances to regional farms. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Schedule Full‑time, year‑round, 35–40 hours per week. Monday–Friday, with three in‑office days and mandatory presence on Wednesdays. Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required.

Compensation This exempt, salary‑based role pays $85,000–$90,000 annually and includes benefits such as medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long‑term disability, incentive savings plan, paid time off, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, FSA programs, and potential parental leave for employees with 175 days of service. The position is not union‑eligible.

Location Hybrid role with a minimum of three days per week in the Manhattan office (mandatory Wednesdays). In‑person field work at Greenmarket locations is required; visits to regional farms and partner organizations may also be needed.
