We are hiring a seasoned Social Media & Outreach Communications Manager (Communications Consultant 5) to support the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) in managing our online presence and educating veterans and the public on welfare programs and services in Washington state.
Work Schedule : 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday. Evening and weekend work may be required. Hybrid telework may be authorized. Travel is required within Washington state, including to veterans homes and military installations.
Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate, and direct social media presence for all agency programs.
Develop and coordinate agency social media policy, procedures, and activities.
Advise leadership and managers on social media policy and practice.
Analyze public understanding of veteran definitions and program laws; determine information needs.
Plan, coordinate, and direct complex social media outreach and public engagement.
Direct original WDVA content and key messages.
Plan and control strategies for follower growth and engagement, targeting public interaction on key issues.
Ensure consistent language across social media and website.
Plan, organize, and direct public relations programs for education and training for veterans and families.
Develop and manage complex public information strategies enabling service providers to access updated veteran definitions.
Work on digital projects (video, social media, other digital content) requiring cross‑agency collaboration.

Qualifications
Expertise in social media platforms, tools, and analytics.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, InDesign, Publisher, Adobe Creative Suite, and Canva.
Proficiency with social media tools such as Hootsuite.
Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.
Four (4) years of professional experience in social media, journalism, or public relations.
Experience in: social media management, cultivating community groups, writing technical and marketing materials.
Knowledge of: evaluating effectiveness of public relations programs; social media etiquette, strategy, and optimization; data visualization and graphic design.
Ability to: advise top management; organize and prepare comprehensive public information and educational programs; manage multiple priorities; write and speak effectively; proofread and apply proper grammar with attention to detail.

Must comply with all DVA policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
Must accommodate emergency extended stay or duties when required.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Must possess work authorization requiring no employer sponsorship.
