Base pay range: $33.77/hr - $33.77/hr

Schedule: Hybrid – Work from Home (Monday & Friday); In-office (Tuesday–Thursday)

Hours: Flexible 8‑hour workday (generally between 3:00 AM – 4:30 PM)

Expenses: Only with prior approval

Position Overview The Fiber Engineer is responsible for the design, documentation, and management of fiber optic network infrastructure within the assigned region. This role supports both customer‑funded and company‑funded initiatives, including new builds, overbuilds, municipal projects, and network expansions. The engineer will work closely with Construction Managers, Field Operations, and the Network Operations Center to ensure accurate design, timely delivery, and integrity of all fiber records.

Key Responsibilities Design & Planning

Participate in project kick‑off meetings to assess scope, route, and requirements for new backbone, lateral, or riser fiber builds.

Design backbone and lateral fiber routes in alignment with engineering standards and local regulations.

Create detailed fiber design maps covering A‑Z fiber paths and connectivity details.

Review and analyze existing network capacity; plan and document network augments for high‑utilization routes.

Develop work orders and network design packages for overbuilds and expansion projects.

Implementation & Coordination

Provide Construction teams with accurate fiber assignments and splicing documentation to the final demarcation panel.

Generate requisitions and purchase orders for vendor services and material procurement.

Collaborate closely with Fiber Construction Managers to ensure proper field execution and compliance with design intent.

Submit and manage all change management requests, ensuring adherence to company policies and field activity guidelines.

Documentation & Closeout

Deliver final Design Layout Records (DLRs) and test results (“test shots”) for project closeout.

Approve vendor invoices and ensure proper reconciliation of project costs.

Update all relevant databases and systems to reflect as‑built conditions and completed fiber records.

Maintain accurate documentation of all fiber routes, splices, and allocations.

Operations Support

Partner with the NOC, Field Operations, and Change Management teams to coordinate repair efforts in response to network impairments.

Participate in an on‑call rotation to provide emergency and trouble response for fiber issues.

Support ongoing network optimization, maintenance, and capacity management initiatives.

Qualifications Education & Certifications

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum of a 2‑year technical degree or equivalent work experience in telecommunications, network engineering, or related field.

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Construction, or Electrical Engineering (preferred).

Valid driver’s license required.

Experience & Skills

3+ years of experience in fiber optic network design, engineering, or inside plant (ISP) environments.

Solid understanding of fiber architecture (backbone, lateral, riser, and distribution networks).

Proficiency with GIS tools, CAD systems, or fiber design software (e.g., AutoCAD, ArcGIS, OSP Insight, 3-GIS).

Strong documentation and record‑keeping skills.

Experience collaborating with Construction and Field Operations teams.

Familiarity with optical testing standards and DLR documentation.

Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively across teams.

Understanding of industry standards and safety guidelines (e.g., NEC, NESC, OSHA).
