Project Designer – Roanoke, VA – Westwood Professional Services, Inc.
Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Project Designer to join our Architecture team in the Roanoke, VA office. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high‑level professional services to our clients.
Duties and Responsibilities
Consults with clients to determine functional and spatial requirements of new structures or renovations, and prepares information regarding design, specifications, materials, color, equipment, estimated costs, and construction time.
Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure projects progress on schedule and within budget.
Plans layout of project and integrates engineering elements into unified design for client review and approval.
Prepares scale drawings and contract documents for building contractors.
Represents clients in obtaining bids and awarding construction contract.
Administers construction contracts and conducts periodic on‑site observation of work during construction to monitor compliance with plans.
Prepares studies and reports.
Prepares project designs and plans using computer‑assisted design software and equipment.
Directs activities of workers engaged in preparing drawings and specification documents.
Resolves client problems and complaints and provides technical advice to project staff.
Performs final quality assurance/buildability review of project documents.
Signs and seals project documents supervised under his supervision.
Understands and obeys site safety requirements for construction sites.

Required Skills
Knowledge of art and science of designing buildings and structures, styles of design, and methods of construction of buildings and other physical structures.
Read, analyze, and interpret written communication, specifications, and drawings.
Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Present information effectively and respond to questions from manager, client, customer, and public groups.
Read, analyze, interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or government regulations.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and other discipline‑specific software.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
Ability to obtain an Architectural license in applicable states.
Must complete training and testing for licensure within established timeframe.
