Position Overview

The Director of Strategic Communication plays a critical role within our Communications organization, responsible for making strategic decisions regarding external information during crises. This individual contributor will be focused on safeguarding the company's reputation and developing rapid-response communication strategies for various stakeholders, including media and government officials. You will ensure alignment across cross-functional teams, including the Zelis Operating Committee, Legal, Compliance, Legislative Affairs, and others. Partnering with the VP of Brand & PR, you will create and implement strategic communication plans and develop key messaging for press releases, media statements, executive talking points, and op-eds. At times, you may serve as an official spokesperson for the company.

THE EXPECTATIONS

  • Thoughtful Communications Leadership: Leverage your crisis management experience to communicate effectively during issues, helping to mitigate long-term damage.
  • Proactive Issue Management: Monitor emerging threats and coordinate proactive plans with stakeholders.
  • Executive Presence: Advise senior leaders on strategic decisions and maintain regular communication with stakeholders.
  • Industry Engagement: Build relationships with key influencers to elevate Zelis' brand at state and national levels.
  • Strong Media Relations: Utilize deep media relations expertise to balance proactive and reactive strategies in high-pressure situations.
  • Crisis Management Planning: Contribute to the development of crisis response playbooks and execute tabletop exercises.
  • Outcome Assessment: Establish metrics to evaluate communication effectiveness and refine protocols post-incident.

ABOUT YOU:

  • 12+ years of experience in strategic communications with a focus on crisis management and government affairs.
  • Healthcare and technology expertise is highly desired.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Policy, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and able to work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills for diverse audiences.
  • Proficient in news and reputation monitoring and social listening platforms.

Location and Workplace Flexibility

We have offices in Atlanta GA, Boston MA, Morristown NJ, Plano TX, St. Louis MO, St. Petersburg FL, and Hyderabad, India. We foster a hybrid and remote-friendly culture, and the work location will be based on the needs of the position and determined by the Leadership team. In-office work varies based on team objectives.

Base Salary Range

$139,000 - $186,000. This range considers experience, education, qualifications, and industry-related knowledge. At Zelis, we offer competitive compensation packages, including discretionary bonuses and incentives.
