Peraton is seeking a Senior Editor, you will ensure the highest quality, clarity, and consistency across technical, administrative, and programmatic communications that define this once-in-a-generation modernization effort. This role is ideal for an editor who thrives on transforming technical detail into clear, compelling content that supports mission‑critical aviation work and federal communication standards.

Program Overview

Join Peraton in advancing the safety, efficiency, and modernization of the National Airspace System (NAS) through the FAA's Brand New Air Traffic Control System (BNATCS) contract. As a trusted partner to the Federal Aviation Administration, Peraton helps deliver the systems and services that keep our nation's skies safe and connected.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the editing, formatting, and quality assurance of reports, manuals, technical publications, proposals, and briefings supporting FAA modernization initiatives.
  • Review and revise manuscripts for completeness, clarity, accuracy, and compliance with FAA, Peraton, and federal editorial standards.
  • Ensure consistency of tone, organization, and style across a variety of technical and administrative documents.
  • Collaborate with authors, subject matter experts, and project managers to clarify complex material and recommend content improvements.
  • Reorganize, condense, or rewrite content as necessary to improve readability and ensure alignment with publication objectives.
  • Edit copy for grammar, usage, punctuation, and adherence to approved editorial style guides (e.g., APA, GPO, or custom FAA standards).
  • Verify accuracy of data, facts, dates, and statistics using standard reference sources and project documentation.
  • Plan and coordinate publication content, layout, and sequencing to meet editorial policy and production standards.
  • Support production activities, including coordination of layout, artwork, typesetting, and printing or digital publication.
  • Manage document workflows to ensure deliverables meet quality standards and are completed on schedule.
  • Mentor junior writers and editors, fostering consistency and best practices across the content development process.
  • Maintain awareness of FAA mission goals, technical terminology, and program priorities to ensure editorial accuracy and context.

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must have the ability to obtain/maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience with a BS/BA; minimum of 6 years with an MS/MA; minimum of 3 years with a PhD.
  • 7‑10 years of professional editing experience, preferably in a federal, technical, or engineering environment.
  • Proven ability to edit complex technical materials for clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Strong command of grammar, style, and editorial best practices.
  • Experience coordinating with authors, SMEs, and production teams to deliver polished, publication‑ready content.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and document management systems; experience with Adobe Acrobat and publishing software a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting FAA, DOT, or other federal government programs.
  • Familiarity with aviation, aerospace, or systems engineering terminology.
  • Experience editing technical documents subject to FAA or federal publication standards.
  • Knowledge of Section 508 accessibility requirements for digital publications.
  • Experience leading editorial or documentation teams in a programmatic environment.
