Responsibilities of Learning Commons Librarian
- Build and foster a student-focused library environment that utilizes current research practices and aligns student interests.
- Support academic and social development for upper school students.
- Equip students with the skills to access, evaluate, create, and use information effectively.
- Collaborate with faculty members to design and implement lessons that promotes information literacy skills.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of student learning outcomes and instructional strategies.
- Supervise library staff to promote an inclusive environment committed to serving the learning needs of the community.
- Train students and faculty with utilizing library technologies and research databases.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to further develop and enrich professional skills.
- Stay current on best practices in information literacy, library science, and instructional technologies.
- Assist with managing annual library budget to ensure strategic allocation of resources.
- Serve as an advisor for students ensuring student success.
Requirements of Learning Commons Librarian
- Master of Library Science (MLS) or equivalent advanced degree required.
- Have substantial expertise in the field and will be: skilled in fostering persistent problem solving, knowledgeable about adolescents’ intellectual, social, and emotional development.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver information literacy curriculum.
- At least 2 years of previous teaching experience in K-12 setting preferred.
- U.S. Work Authorization required.
Additional Desired Qualities
- Experience working in independent schools preferred, but not required.
- Desire to be involved in school-wide initiatives and extracurricular activities.
