Director – Herrick District Library (MI)
The Herrick District Library (HDL) seeks an experienced and forward‑thinking leader to serve as its next Director. The Director will provide strategic direction, oversee daily operations of the Main and North Branch libraries, and ensure high‑quality services, strong community connections, and responsible resource management.

Responsibilities:
- Lead and inspire a dedicated team of professionals to deliver exceptional library services
- Prepare the annual budget for approval by the District Library Board
- Administer and monitor the expenditure of funds across two branches
- Oversee all operations, including staff development, facility management, and program direction
- Develop library policies, procedures, and practices and implement them effectively
- Collaborate with the Board to set strategic vision and ensure fiscal stewardship
- Represent HDL as the primary ambassador to the Lakeland Library Cooperative, local government, nonprofits, and community groups
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA‑accredited program
- Michigan Level I certification from the Library of Michigan (or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire)
- At least five years of increasingly responsible public library supervisory experience, including a minimum of three years at a department head level or above
- Proven record of strategic vision, inspiring leadership, and effective community engagement
- Demonstrated abilities in innovation, team building, complex project and budget management
- Outstanding communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building skills
Compensation:
The hiring salary range is $128,000 – $161,000 annually, with placement negotiable based on experience and qualifications, and an excellent fringe benefits package.
