Duties, Responsibilities & Other As a Senior Utility Designer your primary responsibilities include designing and drafting construction drawings using MicroStation and other relevant software. You will work closely with a team under the supervision of a project manager to ensure that all designs meet the approval standards of federal, state, and local agencies. Your role involves reviewing and interpreting technical documents, preparing accurate reports, and ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget. You will be expected to demonstrate attention to detail, collaborate effectively with team members, and interface with clients and other professionals to meet project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Design and draft construction drawings using MicroStation (or other required software), ensuring they meet the required standards for approval by federal, state, and local agencies.

Work with a team of drafters and designers under the supervision of a project manager to support the practice.

Review and interpret design manuals, technical documents, and local jurisdiction details.

Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches with some guidance.

Able to review projects with customers and answer design questions.

Must be able to interface in client’s work‑management system and other design programs.

Size and specify design requirements accurately.

Adhere to all company policies and procedures, ensuring projects meet ISO compliance requirements.

Strive to achieve or exceed the budgeted individual utilization target.

Attend bi‑weekly or more frequent meetings with project teams to discuss progress and address any issues.

Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub‑consultants as required.

Demonstrate commitment to team performance and actively participate in meetings.

Complete all assigned tasks on time, within budget, and in accordance with the project scope.

Compare field data to base plans to ensure accuracy and consistency.

Design and draft construction drawings using standard engineering principles for approval by federal, state, and local agencies.

Collect necessary data, including measurements, sketches, notes, and photographs, to support project needs.

Read and interpret technical documents, design manuals, and local jurisdiction details to effectively perform job duties.

Size and specify design requirements, ensuring all design aspects meet project and regulatory standards.

Complete other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications Education and/or Skills Required

Minimum of 8 years of experience with a Highschool Diploma/GED; Minimum of 7 years of experience with an Associate’s Degree; Minimum of 6 years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field.

Strong knowledge and proficiency in AutoCAD.

Education and/or Work Experience Preferred

Experience with Microsoft Suite; Photoshop and Google Earth.

Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations Required

Valid Driver’s License.

Pre‑employment drug screening and background check are conditions of employment. Motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.
