Who We Are The Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture (MAC) seeks to engage our audiences in the appreciation of art, history, and culture of the Inland Northwest and beyond, through collection stewardship, exhibitions and programs that enrich and inspire. Established in 1916, the MAC is the oldest cultural organization in Spokane, Washington, and serves over 100,000 visitors each year from around the region. The museum collections contain over 63,000 objects, including the largest known collection of Plateau tribes art and artifacts.

Description Chief Marketing Officer Monday - Friday | 8AM - 5PM | ON-SITE

About The Opportunity As the Chief Marketing Officer, you will lead the agency’s marketing, communications, and public relations efforts to elevate brand awareness, drive attendance, and increase revenue across exhibitions, programs, and events. You will work closely with the Executive Director and senior leadership to implement strategic marketing initiatives that advance the agency’s mission and support organizational goals. This role oversees all aspects of marketing operations, including audience development, advertising, promotions, and market research, as well as management of social media and media relations. You will direct marketing staff, contractors, and vendors to ensure projects are high-quality, on time, and within budget, while fostering strong internal and external partnerships that enhance the agency’s visibility and impact.

Some Of What You’ll Enjoy Doing Includes

Directs marketing operations for Development, Exhibitions, and Education programs, including audience development, advertising, promotions, and market research to support strategic and revenue goals.

Develops and implements integrated marketing plans with defined objectives, budgets, and promotional tactics for exhibitions, programs, events, and other revenue‑generating activities.

Oversees brand management, including visual identity, brand guidelines, and creative development for all marketing materials and communications.

Writes and produces marketing content, coordinates advertising and promotional partnerships, and ensures timely delivery of media assets.

Manages and monitors the marketing department budget, evaluating performance and adjusting strategies to achieve desired outcomes.

Oversees all media and public relations activities, serving as a key communications advisor to executive leadership and managing responses to emergency or crisis situations as a COOP critical staff member.

Ensures consistent internal and external messaging across departments and directs production of all marketing photo and video content.

Leads and manages marketing staff, contractors, and vendors to ensure high-quality, on‑time, and on-budget project delivery; oversees recruitment, contracting, performance management, and achievement of departmental and organizational goals.

Qualifications Required Qualifications

Three (3) years of management experience.

Demonstrated deep knowledge of marketing strategy, branding, advertising, promotions, and market research, with strong creative skills and a record of achieving measurable results.

Ability to excel in professional and persuasive writing, and collaborate effectively with staff across all levels and diverse audiences.

Expert in MS Office, email software, and social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube, with a basic understanding of Adobe Creative Cloud.

Ability to take action to learn and grow, including adapting to change, identifying and implementing solutions, navigating systems and tools, practicing self‑awareness, and taking responsibility for personal development.

Ability to take action to meet the needs of others, including asking questions to understand needs, collaborating to solve problems, building partnerships, advocating for inclusion, and adapting communication to diverse individuals and communities.

Education and Experience Options

Option 1:

Eight (8) years of combined education and/or experience in marketing, communications, journalism, business, or a related field.

Option 2:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, business, or related field; and four (4) years of experience in marketing.

Option 3:

Master’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, business, or related field; and two (2) years of experience in marketing.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in a museum, arts organization, or visitor‑serving organization.

Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.

Knowledge of the Spokane and/or Inland Northwest market.
