Associate Communications Specialist – Mesa, AZ
Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is a global leader in aircraft, satellite, space exploration, and weapons innovation. We are seeking an Associate Communications Specialist to develop and execute internal and external site communications strategies across two Boeing locations: Mesa, AZ and Ridley Park, PA. The role supports Boeing’s Vertical Lift programs and other business activities and may require occasional travel.
Location Mesa, AZ (primary) and Ridley Park, PA (support).
Position Summary Develop and execute communication plans aligned with site executives’ priorities. Partner with site leadership, cross‑functional teams, and government communicators to deliver clear, compelling messages that highlight Boeing’s innovative work and support an engaged workforce. Provide occasional support for Vertical Lift program communications.
Responsibilities
Strategic Communications Planning – Create and implement communication plans that support site culture, talent acquisition/retention, milestone celebrations, events, leadership initiatives, and stakeholder needs.
Translate complex aerospace and defense information into clear, compelling messages.
Employee Communications – Partner with leadership to enhance local employee morale and alignment, deliver internal updates via company channels, produce news and feature stories, manage plasma screen content, monitor workforce sentiment, and prepare leaders for employee engagements.
Media Relations – Prepare spokespeople for media interviews, contribute to press releases and media kits, and monitor industry news to align messaging.
Executive and Stakeholder Support – Counsel executives on messaging and reputation, create speeches, op‑eds, and briefing materials.
Digital and Visual Communications – Create or collaborate on videos, graphics, social media, and digital storytelling assets, ensuring brand consistency.
Issues and Crisis Communication – Ensure brand consistency during crises.
Measurement and Feedback – Track KPIs such as employee engagement, message penetration, media reach, and reputation; adjust tactics using feedback loops.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher.
1+ year’s experience writing communications for senior executives and other leaders.
1+ year’s experience working with senior leaders to communicate strategic plans.
1+ year’s experience with videography, editing, and writing.
Experience in internal, executive, or external communications support.
Preferred Qualifications
Aerospace industry experience.
Experience working with stakeholders across multiple organizations.
Proven ability to collaborate with large cross‑functional teams.
Experience in content development and storytelling.

Pay & Benefits: Competitive base pay ($66,300 – $89,700) and variable compensation, plus comprehensive benefits (health insurance, flexible spending accounts, HSA, retirement plans, life and disability insurance, paid/unpaid time off). Pay is based on experience.
