The FORMULA 1 HEINEKEN LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX has rapidly become a world-class event in its first two years. This three-day spectacle attracts a global audience to witness the world’s greatest drivers and cars navigate the iconic Las Vegas Strip at breathtaking speeds approaching 200 mph.
Grand Prix Plaza is the world’s largest immersive Formula 1 attraction, featuring thrilling interactive experiences: F1X, a 4D journey through a tech driven attractions; F1 Drive, kart racing powered by advanced DRS technology; and F1 HUB featuring state-of-the-art simulators, a flagship F1 store, and elevated restaurant and lounge offerings.
SUMMARY OF JOB We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented
Assistant Technical Director
to join our dynamic team. This role serves as a critical link between Technical Director and the Technician team, ensuring smooth daily operations, consistent maintenance, and high-quality guest experiences. The Assistant Technical Director will assist in managing technical systems, coordinating with vendors, leading troubleshooting efforts, supporting the integration of new technologies, and updating important technical documentation. This position requires both leadership and hands-on technical expertise.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Supports the Technical Director in overseeing all technical systems including AV, lighting, show control, IT infrastructure, and scenic / property elements.
Leads and mentors technicians in daily operations, maintenance routines, and troubleshooting.
Assists in developing and executing preventative maintenance programs.
Coordinates with vendors and contractors for repairs, upgrades, and system installations.
Monitors and enforces safety standards and protocols across all technical areas.
Maintains documentation of maintenance activities, incidents, and system updates.
Participates in planning and implementation of new technical elements for experiences.
Ensures inventory of spare parts, tools, and consumables is maintained and organized.
Provides technical support during live events and activations, including the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Assists guests and team members in the event of an emergency.
Performs other duties as assigned.
SEASONAL & EVENT-BASED RESPONSIBILITIES This role includes a seasonal period during which responsibilities extend beyond standard operations. During load-in and load-out of the Grand Prix Plaza facility, race week activations, and other special projects, the position may support non-traditional functions that fall outside routine venue management. Flexibility, cross-functional collaboration, and adaptability are essential during these high-impact times.
QUALIFICATIONS
5+ years of experience in technical operations, preferably in themed entertainment, immersive experiences, or live events.
Strong knowledge of AV systems, control systems, and general IT/networking infrastructure.
Proven experience managing teams and collaborating with cross-functional departments.
Excellent troubleshooting, project management, and vendor coordination skills.
Familiarity with safety regulations and standards related to technical operations and public venues. Understanding of OSHA compliance and standards.
Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theater, Engineering, AV Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Passion for innovation, storytelling, and delivering high‑quality guest experiences.
Motivated self‑starter who thrives in a deadline‑driven environment and has exceptional follow through skills.
Highly organized with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to prioritize and multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
Able to analyze problems and strategize for better solutions.
Able to take initiative to recommend projects, product improvements, or cost reductions.
Solid computer/database and clerical skills, Proficient in MS Office products.
WORK SCHEDULE This is a full‑time position that works a flexible schedule including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Physical ability to walk, stand, take stairs/elevators/escalators, and navigate the elements during the day and night. Employee may be required to remain in a sitting or standing position for prolonged periods, and repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times.
