The Writing Lab Coordinator supports the mission of the Academic Support Center by coordinating writing tutoring services for students across all disciplines. The Coordinator provides in-person and online tutoring in writing, supports tutor training and scheduling, ensures accurate tracking of all Academic Support Center activity, and assists in promoting writing support services to students and faculty. NOTE: May include occasional evening or special event hours. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Coordinate day-to-day Writing Lab operations, including tutor schedules, coverage, and communication. Provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring to students in writing, reading, and critical thinking across academic disciplines. Assist with recruitment, orientation, and ongoing training of writing tutors. Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, tutor schedules, and student attendance. Manage all data related to Academic Support Center activity, including tutoring referrals, tutor hours, session counts, and other performance metrics. Generate regular reports on Writing Lab usage and effectiveness as requested by the Assistant Director of the Academic Support Center or the Dean of Instructional Support. Promote Writing Lab services through classroom visits, faculty outreach, and student engagement activities. Collaborate with faculty and staff to support writing across the curriculum. Develop and facilitate writing workshops and instructional materials to strengthen student writing skills. Maintain an organized and welcoming tutoring environment conducive to learning. Participate in professional development and staff meetings to enhance job performance and service delivery. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of the Academic Support Center or the Dean of Instructional Support. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Strong interpersonal skills and a student-centered approach. Ability to model effective writing strategies and provide constructive feedback. Organizational skills for managing schedules, data entry, and report preparation. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, and database systems. Commitment to the mission of the community college. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as student tutor payroll preparation, frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis in order to facilitate learning for students and other job related requirements. Ability to apply basic and advanced algebraic operations in order to facilitate learning for students. REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. OTHER SKILLS And ABILITIES Understanding of and commitment to the unique nature and role of the College and to the philosophy of the community college system. Required Qualifications Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution. Demonstrated writing proficiency and strong communication skills. Experience tutoring, teaching, or assisting students in writing. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher in English, Education, or a related field. Experience coordinating or training peer tutors in a college setting. Familiarity with learning management systems and tutoring platforms (e.g., Canvas, Tutor.com).
