Purpose The Senior Director of Strategic Marketing & Insights oversees a team of managers and individual contributors, as well as other functions across the business in a matrixed environment, developing the global strategic marketing strategy to maintain the leadership of the Shockwave IVL coronary and peripheral product portfolio. This individual will build and foster the organization’s network of relationships with external partners and maintain awareness of market insights and trends in order to develop effective leadership and portfolio marketing solutions. The position reports to the VP of Marketing & Education and works closely with senior staff, functional leaders, and senior members of the marketing team.
Responsibilities
Global leadership and oversight in key areas:
Acquisition and analysis of global intelligence and insights from internal and external sources for emerging and established technologies.
Evaluation of IVL technologies’ value proposition, product positioning and messaging, and planning for future potential opportunities.
Collaboration with R&D, medical affairs and project management to initiate product bench, preclinical and clinical testing as needed.
Drive proactive and reactive marketing strategies, campaigns, and essential collateral in an ongoing manner to address market dynamics.
Ensure the proficiency of the global sales force to address IVL market leadership opportunities and IVL technologies’ positioning/counter-positioning with customers.
Collaboration with downstream and upstream marketing on the development of go-to-market strategies for new Shockwave IVL products, including portfolio prioritization and planning, pricing, account targeting and segmentation, and sales support.
Provide input into product development programs, especially for core IVL markets, which may include acting as executive sponsor for various PDP programs, market and opportunity assessments, market research and physician feedback, and design input for new products.
Assist communications function with implementation of competitive internal and external communications strategy.
Oversee directors, senior managers, and senior individual contributors in a matrix environment, accountable for career development conversations and regular coaching and feedback.
Partner closely with marketing leadership, US and EU sales leadership, commercial operations, cross‑functional colleagues (including clinical, legal, R&D, regulatory and finance), senior management, advising on strategic insights and initiatives.
Manage operational aspects of the team (budget, performance, compliance) and implement workforce and succession plans to meet business needs.
Proactively create a purpose‑driven environment by aligning Johnson & Johnson’s Credo and Leadership Imperatives with the strategies and goals of the team and enterprise.
Requirements
BA or equivalent experience is required.
Minimum 10‑12 years of global marketing leadership experience in cardiovascular med‑tech.
Proven track record in med‑tech product management and/or product marketing, with experience launching novel new products and market development.
Strong command of clinical research and practice in core IVL markets.
Ability to build successful partnerships with the sales force and develop relationships with key opinion leaders.
Demonstrates agility to modify strategies and tactics, when necessary, based on voice of customer and emerging trends.
Effective communication skills with all levels of management and organizations.
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, managing multiple priorities, operating as a team and independently, adapting to changing requirements.
Ability to travel 30% or more may be required.
Preferred Requirements
MBA or advanced degree is highly desired.
Preferably has coronary, structural heart or peripheral vascular technologies, with knowledge of relevant products and call points.

Pay Range The expected base pay range for this position is $221,000 to $299,000. The expected base pay range for this position in the Bay Area is $254,150 to $343,850.
Additional Pay Transparency The Company maintains highly competitive, performance‑based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position may be eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short‑ and long‑term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance.
