Job Title: Illustrator & Motion Designer
Reporting To: Art Director
Location: Remote
Salary: $60,000-$100,000 annually
Overview We’re a small team with big ideas. Sky Castle Studios (creator of Hero Forge) is a fully remote company. We’re a group of talented artists, developers, character riggers, 3D modelers, in‑house customer service agents, and gamers and nerds of all stripes. When we’re not brainstorming and creating new platforms, we’re a bunch of friends who enjoy sharing the latest developments in geek culture, exploring new technologies, and sharing our creative endeavors.
You should be a self‑starter with initiative. We won’t be looking over your shoulder, unless you’re showing us the cool new thing you just designed.

A designer with a clean, elegant visual style who can make complex interfaces intuitive
Someone who loves crafting visuals that feel alive and reactive
Comfortable wearing multiple hats (such as graphic designer, illustrator, or motion designer) depending on the need
Excited to help define the look and feel of a new game
Very careful and organized with color theory, shape language & overall design
Job Description Sky Castle Studios is developing a new web‑based, turn‑based game and we're looking for an Illustrator & Motion Designer to help define its visual language. You’ll be responsible for creating the iconography, interface art, and motion polish
that bring the game’s world to life
— elegant, readable, and full of character. This role blends
graphic design sensibility, illustrative flair , and
light motion design
to shape the way players see and feel every interaction.
Responsibilities
Design and illustrate in‑game icons, UI elements, and interface visuals that are beautiful, clear, and cohesive
Develop the overall visual identity and style guide for UI and 2D game assets
Create motion and visual feedback for UI transitions, ability effects, and on‑screen events
Collaborate closely with engineers, 3D artists, and the art director to implement UI and motion assets efficiently
Contribute to the user experience through thoughtful layout, hierarchy, and information design
Maintain consistency across styles, resolutions, and platforms (desktop and mobile browsers)
Requirements
3+ years of experience in UI art, graphic design, or motion design for games or interactive media
Strong skills in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop (or equivalent)
Familiarity with Autodesk Maya for integrating or referencing 3D assets
Experience with Unity or similar tools for testing and integrating effects and animations
Solid understanding of composition, color, shape language, and readability
Ability to work from concept through final implementation in collaboration with engineers
Strong communication and organizational skills; comfortable iterating with feedback
Preferred Qualifications
Experience creating iconography systems or style guides for games
Understanding of motion design principles (anticipation, timing, follow‑through) for UI motion
Familiarity with web pipelines (e.g. css) or browser‑based rendering
Comfort working in a small, cross‑disciplinary team where each artist has broad ownership
Familiarity with creating particle effects in Unity
