Job Description As part of the communication team, the Communications Specialist II provides leadership and support in communications, public relations, event planning, digital communications, marketing and media relations functions for Texas A&M Forest Service, including planning, executing, and managing agency communications, marketing, public, and media relations.
Responsibilities
Help develop and administer marketing and communications initiatives that promote the agency mission and outreach to external and internal audiences.
Conduct media relations activities including news writing, interviews, serving as spokesperson, media list development, pitching releases, handling inquiries, and tracking news coverage.
Work with the communication team to create and implement a social media marketing strategy; manage agency-wide pages, respond to feedback and questions, monitor, measure, and report, coordinate the editorial calendar, and partner with other departments to train and optimize page management. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures.
Write and edit print and digital materials and assist in development of web content, social media content, news releases, technical reports, brochures/flyers, and internal communications. Coordinate production with designers and printers, and work with agency personnel and vendors to develop informational materials, reports, and displays in print and digital formats.
Support and add value to the team's digital communications strategy. Work with agency communications and technology committees to optimize agency use and digital presence, incorporating digital best practices into all communications and marketing activities.
Possess proficient skills in graphic design and layout; assist with creative concepts and some technical development.
Support incident information and PIOs during incidents. Serve as backup manager of social and web pages dedicated to incident information.
Work conditions: Office environment; occasional travel with overnight stays may be required. Occasional weekend and after-hour duty while in incident status.
Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or related field, or equivalent experience (8+ years).
Required Experience: Two (2) years of demonstrated working knowledge, aptitude, and experience in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or related field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required Knowledge: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and social media management.
Preferred Knowledge: WordPress website design and content management, design and graphics experience, photography.
Required Skills: Excellent writing and editing skills.
Required Abilities: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Licenses, Certifications and Registrations
Required: Valid Texas Driver’s License or ability to acquire one within 30 days of employment.
