DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital is the largest hospital in the DMC network, offering comprehensive cardiac, cancer, geriatric, emergency, obstetric, and cosmetic services. The hospital operates more than 21 outpatient sites and ambulatory surgery centers across Wayne and Oakland counties.
The Communication Specialist will staff the Communication Center in the emergency department at Detroit Receiving Hospital. The Center centralizes and streamlines communication between DMC sites and surrounding areas, housing communication equipment for critical transports, disasters, and mass casualty events. The goal is to expedite incoming patient transfers and coordinate ED staff communication with external facilities.
Job Duties
Expedite and coordinate all transfers from external facilities.
Coordinate and activate EMT processes (STEMI, stroke team, major communicable disease, chempack, decontamination teams, and trauma pager).
Operate all communication equipment for critical patient transports, disasters, and mass casualty events (HEAR radio, Region 2 South 800 MHz HEMS radio, life‑net RS‑12, care‑point, UHF station, telemetry, EM‑TRAX, EMResource).
Maintain appropriate log sheets and data.
Attend monthly trauma system meetings.
Respond to telemetry alerts.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School graduation or equivalent.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
State of Michigan license for Emergency Medical Technician.
One or two years of EMT experience preferred.
Dispatch certification recommended (not required).
