Position Description
The Designer provides design, drafting and CAD services to clients for their design projects either directly through on-site assignment or through the Salas O’Brien engineering and design project team.
Core Responsibilities
Read, interpret and apply standards, customer specifications, and standard drawing formats. Exhibit mastery of discipline design and drawing conventions.
Find and understand job requirements, visualize in three dimensions (3D), interpret customer job specific requirements.
Work from written and verbal instructions.
Access and efficiently utilize information contained in technical manuals, vendor and customer drawings, and previous designs.
Be proficient in CAD and manual drafting techniques.
Perform routine design calculations, interpret graphs, access and obtain information from tables and codebooks.
Perform effectively as a member of a design team.
Deliver a quality design product in the allotted time to support client project needs.
Effectively apply self-checking to their work.
Conduct work activities that affect the quality of engineering & design in accordance with Salas O’Brien’s Quality Assurance Program.
Review and check the work of others.
Ascertain the correctness of inputs, question inconsistencies and apparent errors and omissions.
Mentor and provide technical supervision to drafters.
Assist in documenting engineering inputs, time and material estimates.
Assist in project scoping.
Participate in the personal Employee Assessment & Development process.
Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the project team or deemed appropriate of the position by management.
Communicate Progress with Team Leader
Recognize the need and initiate corrective action to address shortcomings in design or engineering processes that run counter to customers or Salas O’Brien’s quality or safety requirements.
Continuous Improvement of Technical Skills
Keep abreast of new products, processes and technology.
Scope and Accountability
Possess the knowledge to provide routine design support for the activities normally associated with an Engineering and design office.
Be responsible to their supervisor for work activities.
Incumbent is accountable to Salas O’Brien Operations management and senior officers for the proper execution of their responsibilities in an honest and dependable manner.
Qualifications and Requirements High school diploma, Associate degree in design/drafting or CAD preferred. Five years engineering office or construction field office experience in CAD and related design and construction activities.
Work Environment
Office environment, construction area or factory floor not requiring the lifting or moving of heavy loads.
Routinely requires climbing ladders, scaffolding and working significantly above ground elevation.
May routinely involve a high noise ambient, elevated temperatures, dust, dirt, and hazardous chemicals requiring protective clothing.
Work may involve traveling to customer’s facilities. A valid driver’s license or other assured means of transportation to job sites is essential.
