What We Are Seeking Senior Interior Designer The NCIDQ certified Senior Interior Designer works in collaboration with the firm’s Design leadership and Project leadership to create and develop interior design solutions. Over ten years of experience, the Senior Interior Designer will develop and demonstrate variety of interior design leadership skills on projects of all sizes. The individual will establish themselves within the professional community of Interior Design professionals.
Essential Functions
AIA — Senior Interior Designer (over 10 years’ experience). Ten or more years of experience, bachelor’s degree in Interior Design recommended. Certification as licensed professional is preferred but not required.
Manages projects and leads team, performs schematic design work, participates in design control of projects, and is responsible for project budget management.
Manages projects of all sizes and levels of complexity and provides project team leadership.
Responsible for schematic design work, design development, construction documentation and supervision phases.
Provides direction to lower‑level interior designers.
Responsible for project budget management and cost control.
Communication and Collaboration
Consistently demonstrates working knowledge of conceptual, schematic, design development, construction documentation and construction administration phases on assigned projects and can convey this information to other internal and external consultant team members.
Maintains and initiates frequent communication with JCJ team members to sustain proper information flow.
Demonstrates project team leadership and may serve as Lead Designer on selected projects or lead interior design teams.
Fully participates in designated project meetings, both virtual and in‑person. Demonstrates the ability to lead certain meetings, especially those that focus on coordination with the consultant and internal team.
Demonstrates proficiency at written communication in email and virtual communication via JCJ virtual meeting software.
Prepares meeting notes using standard JCJ formats.
Maintains an ongoing vigilance about self‑checking work and conveying questions or concerns to Project team leadership.
Participates in the formulation of work and scheduling strategies with JCJ team and adheres to established project schedules.
Adheres to JCJ established conventions for digital file keeping and assists in promoting this practice to project team.
Coordinates work with internal JCJ project team and sub‑consultants.
Participates in the preparation and delivery of presentations to clients both physically and virtually, assuming leadership of selected portions of presentations.
Follows time‑management skills required to work on multiple projects of all sizes.
Responsible for checking all JCJ deliverables for design intent, internal fee management, construction/FF&E budgets. Shares this information with project team.
Design, Visualization and Space Planning
Consistently demonstrates creativity in design and the ability to adapt design solutions to a variety of building types.
Understands and embraces the architectural design approach and demonstrates the ability to integrate interior design with architecture to create a unified statement.
Implements design direction cognizant of construction methods and coordination with engineering disciplines.
Demonstrates working knowledge of space planning conventions, including clearances, human scale, ergonomics, functional organization and three‑dimensional implications of planning.
Develops design solutions and selects and presents multiple schemes to internal and client team.
Demonstrates adept use of computer‑aided visualization skills via Revit, AutoCAD, Sketch Up and Adobe Platforms.
Approves manufacturer selections, colors, finishes and materials from the viewpoint of function, client preference, aesthetics and cost.
Develops and leads client presentations and supports business development activities with presentation collateral.
Maintains up‑to‑date awareness of fashion, industry and cultural design trends and leads staff forums and external conferences.
Participates in prospective client presentations and creates visual slide decks in close coordination with JCJ’s business development and marketing teams.
Balances all efforts with cost control and budget management.
Delineation, Detailing and Documentation
Oversees the development of building project documentation from concept through construction documents.
Creates detail drawings for architectural millwork, furniture case goods, custom furniture, tile and stonework.
Develops Interior Finish lists and Finish location plans and elevations.
Reviews construction documents under the direction of the Project Architect as part of the JCJ QA/QC process.
Performs site observation, coordinates with the Project Architect, and performs numeric tasks such as square‑footage calculations, furniture counts, and material quantity take‑offs.
Shows knowledge of Building, ADA, and Life/Fire safety codes and their impact on space planning.
Specifications, Resource Management and Budgeting
Maintains resource materials and database in physical and digital libraries.
Oversees the development of FF&E specifications, location plans and budgets using JCJ established software and formats.
Prepares and analyzes bid tabulation of FF&E bid documents.
Co‑ordinates Interior Finish lists and tagging of Finish location plans and elevations.
Provides financial recommendations to clients.
Co‑ordinates 3rd‑party FF&E procurement companies.
Develops cost‑management strategies at each project phase.
Checks work of Junior staff.
Construction Administration
Provides leadership during value engineering exercises.
Answers RFI’s and coordinates responses with project team.
Oversees shop drawings and submittals process.
Provides leadership and coordinates with construction manager/contractor/procurement client team from DD through CA phase.
Attends regular construction phase meetings.
Other Responsibilities
Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
Job Requirements and Qualifications Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in design or equivalent work experience.
10+ years’ experience in interior design, design management and design services.
5+ years creating interior design solutions.
Training Requirements (licenses, Programs, or Certificates)
Professional registration (preferred but not required).
Advanced computer and information management skills (AutoCAD, Revit).
