Responsibilities span from conceptual (pre‑FEED) through FEED to detailed design for design/build and EPC projects across North America, including Data Centers, Water & Wastewater treatment, and Campus/Utilities/Industrial Energy.

District Overview Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc. is a full‑service consulting and engineering firm serving infrastructure and engineering markets. Our Industrial Design Group spans process, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, focusing on EPC and design‑build delivery for advanced manufacturing, heavy manufacturing, industrial water treatment, wastewater treatment, and campus/utilities/industrial energy projects.

Location This position can be located in Lenexa, Kansas; Lone Tree, Colorado; Houston or Westlake, Texas offices. Relocation assistance is offered; candidates near other Kiewit offices are considered.

Responsibilities

Utilize SmartPlant 3D (or other 3D design software) to create 3D equipment models based on equipment drawings.

Design mechanical systems, equipment and piping; generate isometric drawings for systems typical of industrial energy, data centers, bulk solids handling, and other industrial facilities including chilled water, heat exchangers, CDUs, CRAHs, fan walls, containment walls, process steam, process water, drains, and general plant/facility water, compressed air, and gas systems.

Design material handling systems; produce isometric and detail drawings for pulps and paper, bulk solids handling, and other industrial facilities, including pneumatic conveying, chute work, and ductwork.

Perform early project design work related to facility layout and equipment general arrangement.

Develop and review design deliverables in accordance with industry codes, standards, contract requirements, and company standards.

Navigate 3D models to check for interferences and constructability.

Support the construction team, represent the design team on‑site, answer RFI’s, and provide creative design solutions.

Coordinate with other design partners (internal and external), including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers, to review work progress and results.

Develop schedules, work assignments, and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Computer-Aided Design and Drafting Technology or related field (preferred). If no advanced degree, a high school or GED diploma with 8 years of mechanical design experience is required.

Minimum of 4 years’ industry‑related design experience preparing 3D models, design documents, and piping systems.

Experience with 3D design software (SmartPlant3D, AutoCAD, MicroStation, or REVIT). Preference for SmartPlant3D and REVIT.

Knowledge of piping support design, pipe stress analysis, equipment design/layout, and system installation.

Experience with mechanical design for Data Centers, including chilled water, CRAH, and CDU systems.

Experience drafting P&IDs, schematics, drawings, conceptual locations, equipment modeling/layout in 3D, and routing pipe in 3D software.
