1st Class Marine Electrician - Interior Communications (approx 50% Travel) Location: Suffolk, Virginia

Travel: 50% travel required within and outside of the continental United States.

Work Schedule: Monday thru Saturday 10 hours a day (as needed).

Responsibilities

Install, connect, test, and maintain electrical systems for a variety of purposes, including interior communications.

Maintain and repair electrical systems on marine vessels.

Use advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems beyond manufacturer manuals, such as determining circuitry location, evaluating electromagnetic radiation, isolating malfunctions, and incorporating engineering changes.

Perform circuit analysis, calculate wave forms, trace signal flow relationships, and use test instruments such as high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, and complex computer control equipment.

Work reviewed by supervisor for general compliance; may provide technical guidance to lower-level technicians.

Display high quality, integrity, safety, respect, engagement, and performance consistent with company values.

Under guidance, install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify equipment for fleet modernization on US Navy surface ships.

Lay out, fabricate, and install electrical wiring, coaxial cable, or fiber optic onboard Navy vessels.

Read and interpret schematics and blueprints, work from engineering sketches, charts, work orders, technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.

Troubleshoot, repair, and install electrical equipment and cables. Assist with troubleshooting and diagnosing equipment to efficiently eliminate problems.

Remove and install cables found overhead, along bulkheads, or under the deck.

Repair and replace cables/connectors.

Apply understanding of production processes to complete complicated and non‑routine tasks related to installations on shipboard systems at company and/or field locations according to established quality and safety procedures.

Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.

Maintain effective supervisor and manager communications and relations.

Remove, plan, execute, install, and modify electrical cable, cableways, conductors, connectors, strain relief, fasteners, and equipment aboard naval vessels.

Complete electrical and data conductor disconnections and reconnections on existing and new equipment for a complete installation.

Qualifications

DoD Secret clearance.

High school diploma, GED or industrial/trade school certificate.

5 to 7 years of experience in operation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment on‑board Navy or U.S. Coast Guard vessels, MSC or Maritime vessels, with practical shipboard experience with HM&E systems and equipment.

Familiarity with one or more Interior Communications systems: MC, HYDRA, IVN, IVCN, SATCC, SIWCS.

Past supervisory experience is a plus.

Ability to obtain and maintain a DBIS credential to perform work on‑board US naval vessels.

Ready to work overtime and weekends upon managerial request.

Ready to travel outside the Suffolk area if required.

Prior experience working with Fiber Optic cables and multi‑pin connectors.

Possesses or provides trade‑specific hand tools.

Experience working in a team environment and communicating effectively with others.

Understanding of NSI 009‑73 requirements.

Experience in inspection, testing, installation, removal, and repair of shipboard electrical cabling and electronic equipment.

Experience in cable installations such as banding, terminal boxes, connection boxes, connectors, equipment, penetrations, cableways, hangers, and associated components.

Experience with MCT, MCP, and stuffing tube opening, packing, closing, and testing.

Experience with bonding and grounding of electrical equipment.

Experience with NSI 009‑25 air testing of penetrations.

Experience with electrical troubleshooting and testing using multimeters and megohmmeters.

Experience assisting with troubleshooting, maintaining, installing, and repairing electrical distribution systems and associated equipment and cabling.

Experience with cable removal and installation including proper methods of opening and securing various types of cable penetrations.

Ability to work under instruction removing, installing, and modifying electrical cable, cableways, conductors, connectors, strain relief, fasteners, cable penetrations and equipment aboard naval vessels.

Familiarity with reading electrical drawings and schematics.

Familiarity with proper and safe use of multimeters and meggers.

Familiarity with NAVSEA Standard items.

Preferred Qualifications

Current NAVSEA Multipin Connector Certifications (NSI 009‑73).

Current NAVSEA Fiber Optic certification (NSI 009‑123).

Current NAVSEA Cableway Improvement Program certifications.

Graduated from or completed a vocational school or skilled trades certificate program.

Current or active DoD Secret clearance preferred.

OSHA 10 Maritime Certification a plus.

Microsoft Office knowledge a plus.

Physical Demands

Lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes (no less than 30 lbs).

Work on and climb ladders, in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.

Perform duties involving high heat, humidity, noise, dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.

May ride ships at sea for extended periods.

May require wearing a respirator.

50% travel required within and outside of the continental United States.
