Responsibilities
Applies professional programming concepts for small to medium-sized projects or portions of larger projects in support of Jacobs School of Engineering’s various departments, research units and other campus‑wide divisions.
Implements front‑end and back‑end technical aspects for a variety of websites, including logical organization, design, planning and implementation, ensuring that all websites adhere to established best practices. Builds websites using content management systems such as Drupal, WordPress and Google Sites, along with static HTML and jQuery on platforms such as Linux and AWS. Must also have a good understanding of PHP and MySQL to customize certain aspects of Drupal as needed.
Designs and develops moderately complex, database‑driven dynamic websites and web‑based database applications using programming languages such as PHP, ColdFusion and/or Java. This includes a strong understanding of relational database design and the programming of back‑end processes.
Independently consults with content providers to determine design and functional requirements for websites and applications, and assists in monitoring administrative data extract and load scripts.
Recommends software packages for web‑site graphic design and page‑code generation. Provides user support and instruction in Unix, Windows and Mac application software as it relates to web‑site design and maintenance.
Resolves programming design and implementation issues, working on assignments of moderate scope where analysis requires consideration of multiple factors.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Knowledge of secure software development.
Intermediate skills in design, development, modification and deployment of software, including object‑oriented programming concepts.
Intermediate skills developing software in a Linux environment.
Knowledge of other IT related areas, including web browser functionalities and server protocols.
Demonstrated software repository skills; knowledge of GIT or RCS.
Experience with common programming tools such as Photoshop/Dreamweaver and SQL related tools like Aqua Data Studio, WinSQL or MySQL Query Browser.
Ability to follow software specifications and to incorporate new server‑ and client‑side technologies into web‑site design and function.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non‑technical personnel at various levels.
Self‑motivated, works independently and as part of a team; learns effectively and meets deadlines.
Problem‑solving skills.
Knowledge of CFML, PHP, jQuery/JavaScript, Java or Perl and expert knowledge of HTML and CSS.
Familiarity with RSS and XML and experience designing and building dynamic web sites and applications using these languages.
Experience designing and maintaining relational database tables using an RDBMS such as Sybase, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle or DB2; MySQL experience preferred.
Working knowledge of the latest version of Drupal CMS, including updating and creating modules, customizing site design and enabling responsive sites; also ability to build sites using other CMSs such as Google Sites.

Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $61,800 – $108,000 (prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%).
Hourly Equivalent: $29.60 – $51.72.
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
