Job Posting: Montpelier Community Gospel Choir Artistic Director
The MCGC is a non‑denominational, un‑auditioned, accompanied choir performing in the African‑American Gospel tradition. It also includes a smaller, auditioned a cappella choir. Our members hail from all over the central Vermont area and from many different faith (and non‑faith) traditions. We are looking for an Artistic Director, to begin in March 2026, to lead the choir in its fourth decade of serving Central Vermont and beyond.
Our new Artistic Director will be responsible for selecting repertoire, leading rehearsals, directing the band, and providing any necessary support material. The ideal candidate will have experience directing choirs, working with inexperienced and experienced singers, and creating a sense of community and shared purpose.
Qualifications
Love of gospel music and ability to share the music’s meaning and context
Teaching skills, including ability to effectively teach individual parts and musicianship
Technical skills, including ability to effectively use technology in support of the choir
Understanding of vocal technique, especially Gospel
Patient and welcoming of all abilities; community‑builder; sense of humor
Good time management, including efficient use of rehearsal time
Supports MCGC’s mission statements and core values
Value diversity of thought, backgrounds, and perspectives
Bring a warm, welcoming and diverse spiritual focus
