Basic Function Kern Community College District accepts applications for part‑time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. Applications submitted remain active for up to two years. The division may contact qualified applicants immediately if a need arises, based on their meeting of minimum requirements and the department’s need.
Representative Duties
Provide instruction in a full range of music courses.
Teach at other campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, distance learning and multiple teaching methodologies.
Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the Visual and Performing Arts department.
Maintain subject‑matter currency, develop and revise curriculum, and use computer and multimedia technology.
Participate collegially in departmental, college and discipline‑specific professional activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Music.
Bachelor’s degree in Music AND Master’s degree in Humanities.
Possession of a valid credential authorizing full‑time teaching of Music at the California Community College level.
Equivalent combination of education, experience and accomplishments, subject to evaluation.
Demonstrated sensitivity to the diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community‑college students.
Degrees and credits from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406).
Foreign degrees evaluated by a qualified association if outside the United States.
The screening committee may limit the number of interviews granted; meeting minimum qualifications does not assure an interview.
Knowledge & Abilities
Work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population.
Work effectively with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals.
Develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities.
Participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges and universities.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Maintain subject‑matter currency.
Assess student learning outcomes.
Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program.
Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission.
