Library Supervisor - Hoquiam (West Grays Harbor)
The Timberland Regional Library District is seeking a candidate with demonstrated supervisory experience to fill the role of Library Supervisor. The position is responsible for daily operations, services, facilities, and personnel of assigned libraries in alignment with TRL’s Mission, Vision, Strategic Direction, Standards and policy directives.
Key Responsibilities
Schedule and supervise circulation staff and operations of library materials.
Manage customer service and patron behavior, including incident resolution.
Perform finance and budget tasks related to the library.
Oversee facilities management and ensure safe and effective library environments.
Collaborate with district-wide projects and initiatives concerning circulation, facilities, and customer service.
Maintain effective relationships with other Library Supervisors, regional managers, and administration.
Lead and supervise Library Assistants, ensuring compliance with TRL library policies and procedures.
Serve as primary onsite contact for volunteers, vendors, community groups, security, and emergency services.
Develop, recommend, and implement operational and customer service plans, policies, and procedures.
Coordinate training on reference, reader’s advisory service, circulation policies, and work methods.
Oversee maintenance of assigned library collections and facilities.
Participate in Circulation Working Groups and other relevant customer service working groups.
Assist with other duties as assigned or required, including performing the duties of a Library Assistant when needed.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree in a related field and a minimum of three years of customer service experience, including two years of supervisory experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated ability to work evenings, weekends, and adapt to schedule changes on short notice.
Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements
Valid Washington State Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
Successful completion of a criminal background check (per RCW 43.43).
Must pass and maintain required background checks and safety evaluations.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Effective supervision, training, and performance evaluation practices.
Knowledge of public library operations, services, and customer service standards.
Understanding of TRL standards, mission, vision, values and Strategic Direction.
Strong time management, basic math and cash-handling skills.
Ability to plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate staff work.
Ability to provide effective training and decision-making in customer service and library operations.
Critical thinking, problem solving, and data analysis skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and library computer systems.
Ability to navigate web functions, time and attendance systems, and performance review tools.
Strong computer skills: database management, documentation, SharePoint, email, and internet usage.
Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, lift up to 40 pounds, push/pull library carts and lift/carry library materials.
Technology & Physical Requirements
Standard office and library environment work with regular public contact.
Occasional travel to attend meetings at other sites or work-related assignments.
Potential exposure to intimidating or unreceptive patrons.
Employment Details
Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours per week (1.0 FTE).
Type: Regular position, FLSA non-exempt.
Bargaining Unit: AFSCME Local 3758-S.
Pay Range: $35.80 - $49.55 per hour (starting at step 1–3 depending on qualifications).
Opening: The position is open until filled. Initial review of applications will take place on November 17.
