This is a Provisional to Permanent position in accordance with Class-Based Test (CBT) Civil Service Rules. This recruitment is restricted to current provisional employees of the City and County of San Francisco, San Francisco Unified School District, or San Francisco City College, working within the 5330 Graphics Supervisor classification.

Job Description
Under general direction, plans, organizes and coordinates a graphics and illustrator design unit; performs difficult illustrator and graphics design and drafting work; supervises a staff that may include illustrators, graphic designers and graphic aides; and performs related duties as required.
Distinguishing Features: This is the supervising level class in the Graphic Artist series. It is distinguished from the 5320 Graphic Artist in that it supervises graphic artists and related classes.
Supervision Exercised: Supervises graphic artists and related staff.
Major, Important, and Essential Duties
According to Civil Service Commission Rule 109, the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this job code/class. They are not intended to be an inclusive list.
Create original graphics and illustration projects that may include brochures, graphs, charts, maps, signage, large format displays, and web design using MacIntosh and personal computers and various output equipment for production.
Meet with departmental personnel, consultants and outside agencies to discuss their illustrator and graphic needs; and develop options and concepts for clients.
Keep abreast of new technology and trends and advise management of new software and hardware and other peripheral needs that will enhance the creativity, quality and efficiency of the design unit.
Analyze needs and expenditures of the graphic design unit and make recommendations for the unit's annual budget.
Maintain a sufficient supply of inventory and materials that will ensure the ability of the unit to meet the needs of its clients.
Supervise, assign, direct and evaluate the work of subordinate personnel in a graphics unit; follow-up to ensure that projects are completed in a timely manner; and enforce all City and departmental rules and regulations.
Ensure that all equipment is in good working condition and maintain a safe working environment.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications – Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications requirement by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.
Must be a current Provisional Employee in Class 5330 who has worked at least 2,080 hours in Class 5330 with no break in service.
Experience : Six years of professional experience in illustration and graphic art design, including web design.
License and Certification: Possession of a valid Class C driver license.
Substitution : An Associate in Arts degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in graphic art or design may substitute for two years of the above experience; 30 semester units/45 quarter units may substitute for one year of experience.

Selection Procedures

Preliminary Questionnaire – Training and Experience Assessment (100% Weight) – During the online application process, candidates will be prompted to complete a Preliminary Questionnaire as part of the online employment process. The Preliminary Questionnaire will serve as the Training and Experience Assessment for this recruitment. Your responses to the preliminary questionnaire will be used to determine whether you qualify to be placed on this recruitment’s eligible list.
Ranking Based on Verified Provisional In-Class Service Duration: Qualified applicants will be ranked on the eligible list based on the length of their Provisional City service in the 5330 Graphics Supervisor class, along with additional qualifying points (e.g., promotive status), as outlined in Civil Service Commission rules. All work history will be verified using official City records, which will serve as the final authority in determining qualifying service.
Eligible List/Score Report: A confidential eligible list of qualifying candidates will be created and used for certification purposes only. A score report will be established so applicants can view the ranks, final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information, including names of applicants on the eligible list, shall not be made public unless required by law. However, an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection upon request once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this selection process is subject to change after adoption (e.g., because of appeals), as directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission.
Duration of Eligible List: The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be six (6) months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.
