Job Summary

WBNG seeks a bold, people‑first News Director who lives for great storytelling, thrives on breaking news, and loves building a newsroom where curious, creative journalists do the best work of their careers. The News Director partners closely with a General Manager who has risen from the News Director ranks and shares a commitment to strong journalism and coaching.

Responsibilities

  • Set and uphold market‑leading standards for daily newsgathering, content quality, and multiplatform execution.
  • Make fast, accurate journalistic and logistical decisions—especially when news is breaking.
  • Hire, coach, supervise, and evaluate a diverse, high‑performing team of journalists and newsroom leaders.
  • Champion enterprise reporting and public‑service journalism that reflects and serves our community.
  • Collaborate across departments (Sales, Creative, Engineering, Digital) to achieve company performance goals.
  • Prepare and manage newsroom budgets and capital requests; prioritize resources for maximum impact.
  • Foster a positive, creative, accountable culture that grows people, ratings, and trust.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • A minimum of 4 years of television news management experience (preferred).
  • A college degree in broadcast journalism (preferred).
  • Deep knowledge of community issues and sound, ethical journalistic principles.
  • Proven ability to make clear, fast, and accurate decisions under pressure.
  • A coaching mindset: love developing people and building future leaders.

Salary & Schedule

Salary: $60,000 - $70,000/yr. (DOE)

Shift and Schedule: Mon. - Fri. (or at Manager’s discretion)
