Producer/Reporter – ABC News (Washington, DC)

ABC News Washington is looking for a Producer/Reporter to join our Washington reporting team. The ideal candidate is a seasoned journalist with excellent reporting and writing skills with fluency in reporting/writing about international affairs, national security, and politics; with the ability to manage and file breaking news stories in a fast‑paced news environment with excellent editorial judgement and experience in field producing. This person should be willing to travel and work flexible hours, including weekends. The ability to travel on short notice is expected.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely across all Washington reporting units
• Report, write, and produce news stories for television and digital platforms, including script writing
• Find primary sources to produce daily story assignments, breaking news events, and long‑term enterprise reporting
• Identify and secure primary sources to strengthen reporting accuracy and depth
• Apply superior news judgement to prioritise and shape coverage
• Contribute to political, White House, Congressional, and investigative reporting

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of reporting/producing in the news industry
• Experience enterprising stories, pitching and executing ideas
• Experience covering national security and/or politics
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Passion for news/politics and the ability to provide dynamic ideas
• Writing and reporting experience producing video content
• Field producing experience is required
• Experience pitching enterprise stories and executing ideas on a daily basis
• Experience booking interviews and working under tight deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of Broadcast journalism experience in a news environment with extensive writing, reporting and producing
• Control room and editing experience

The hiring range for this position in Washington, DC is $105,100 to $140,900 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long‑term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
