UI / UX Designer (Accessibility & WCAG Specialist)

Responsible for designing the visual structure, navigation, and interaction flow of the new CDOT website—ensuring that the interface is intuitive, responsive, inclusive, and fully WCAG 2.1 compliant.

Accessibility Compliance

  • Strong knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA / Section 508 standards.
  • Experience using accessibility testing tools (WAVE, Axe, Lighthouse, Siteimprove).
  • Ability to create inclusive layouts and plain‑language designs.

CDOT explicitly requires the new site to meet accessibility standards and correct existing issues.

User‑Centered Design

  • Conducts user research and usability testing.
  • Builds personas, wireframes, and prototypes (Figma, Adobe XD).
  • Designs intuitive navigation and responsive layouts.

CDOT wants a better user experience (UX) and improved content discoverability.

Design Systems & Branding

  • Experience creating scalable design systems.
  • Consistent styling across pages and components.
  • Knowledge of color contrast, typography, and branding principles.

Aligns with the "better user experience and flexible CMS" objectives.

Front‑End Awareness

  • Understanding of HTML5, CSS3, and basic JavaScript for design feasibility.
  • Works closely with developers to implement design standards.

Ensures seamless collaboration with the technical team on CMS implementation.

Analytics Integration Awareness

  • Designs layouts that accommodate analytics and heatmap tracking points.
  • Familiarity with integrating Google Analytics and SEO‑driven design.

Supports built‑in analytics deliverable (Milestone 7).
