Context At the Sierra Club, we believe in the power of interdependence. Together, we remain committed to the fight for a healthy climate built on a foundation of environmental, racial, economic, and gender justice – a future where all people benefit from a healthy, thriving planet and a direct connection to nature. As the climate crisis and deeply entrenched systemic racism all fuel injustice, we will continue to fight for a bold, transformational agenda that recognizes the interconnectedness between our planet, our humanity, and our future. By recognizing that our destinies are tied, we continue to name that all things are fundamentally connected, and the overlap between ecology, race, gender, and representative government will move to either advance our collective humanity or to oppress it. Sierra Club has close to 800 staff across the country and a network of 64 local chapters that are led and fueled by thousands of volunteers. We are also proud to be a unionized employer, with three labor unions representing more than half of our employees.
Scope The Communications Associate will help support the Colorado Sierra Club’s efforts to communicate with our base, volunteers, the general public, and donors about our priorities of advancing climate justice, protecting the places that make our state special, and defending clean air and water. This is a full‑time position focused on building relationships and communicating with press, developing and maintaining our digital communications, and producing materials to support fundraising and organizing efforts. This position will work with chapter staff and volunteer leaders to develop and share messages to promote our campaigns and action opportunities with our members and followers.

Entrepreneurial and resourceful. Manage a high volume of work and multiple strands efficiently. Create systems to keep tasks from slipping through the cracks. Juggle competing demands and prioritize without sacrificing quality. Consistently overcome challenges and leverage resources to solve problems creatively. Propose solutions with limited guidance and ask for help when needed. Work independently while collaborating and communicating effectively.
Equity, social and climate justice, and analysis & practice. Understand how climate change, environmental degradation, and limited access to nature disproportionately impact different communities or groups. Develop inclusive campaigns at the intersection of environmental action and social justice. Reflect on personal group identities and use experience for effective collaboration with colleagues and the public across identities and roles.
Continuous equity commitment to evolution: deepen understanding of systems of oppression through study, openness, and humility; recognize own privilege and power; examine and shift behaviors.
