office(s). This individual will be responsible for successfully managing client relationships in conjunction with training and mentoring a team of engineers, technicians, and interns. Foundational

Expresses a good understanding of the industry standards of the Alabama Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration

Experience with the Alabama Department of Transportation is a plus

Capable of managing multiple projects while maintaining quality control and assurance measures per GMC’s standards and requirements

Traveling as dictated by projects, clients and company functions; representing the firm in all aspects of projects and assignments to prospective employees, clients, and the communities we serve

Technical

Applies extensive diversified knowledge of the Alabama Department of Transportation

Builds client relationships and assists with specific client development using technical expertise

Responsible for the accuracy of technical aspects of projects

Present and explain proposals, reports, or findings to clients

Manage client satisfaction for assigned clients or projects

Develop projects from marketing and contract negotiations through development of scope and contract execution

Apply knowledge and expertise acquired through progressive experience to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions during design and construction

Team Orientation

Team leader for preparation of contract documents, reports, amendments, change orders, and project modifications as projects progress

Assist with recruitment, placement of new employees, and provide evaluation and identify professional development opportunities for technical engineering project staff

Connectivity with other technical leaders to elevate one another

Work across disciplines and office locations to fully utilize firm experiential knowledge

Delegate project assignments to and mentor lesser‑experienced engineers

Communication

Coordinate the work of assigned team members on multiple projects

Interact effectively with team members, clients, ALDOT, and local government officials

Communicate with, review work, and coordinate efforts of other project team members

Provide guidance relating to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts and policy matters; also receive direction on unusual conditions and developments

Leadership

Responsible for financial goals, marketing plan, and project/client development

Responsible for all aspects of project management—development, design, bidding, and construction

Responsible for enforcement of project delivery standards including technical and procedural

Develop, approve, and conduct professional training as requested

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related engineering field

Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Alabama is required

Minimum of 10 years of experience in roadway engineering

Strong knowledge of Alabama Department of Transportation guidelines, specifications, drawings and organizational structure

Strong knowledge of roadway design guidelines such as the “Green Book”, MUTCD and other FHWA publications

Experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Experience with MicroStation Design platforms particularly Open Roads

Ability to communicate effectively with others, both written and verbal

Ability to prepare and maintain records, prepare reports, documents and correspondence related to the work

Ability to work in a team environment and manage a team

Valid driver’s license as occasional travel is required, often driving to project sites located outdoors

Attention to detail and aptitude to make design decisions
